My friends gave me a 24 nano complete set up!

I scored! My buddy and his wife GAVE me a 24 Nano with 150MH and skimmer. It was full of around 30#'s LS and 40ish #'s LR, tons of hermits, and snails, a pair of true percs, 3 BTA's, tons of yellow pollops, a peppermint shrimp, a 15 head frogspawn, some zoo's, a bunch of GSP, I could go on and on.
My question is this, besides a small skimmer in the middle compartment, there is nothing in the filter area. Should I put some LR rubbel or filter media or something in there? or should I just let the LR do the filtration?

good score. Leave your tank the way it is. You don't even need a skimmer so your filtration is perfect at this time. Of course having one is an added bonus though. The amount of live rock and sand is more than sufficient.
I bet a lot of ppl are hating on you right now. Good score

If it was running well the way it is for them don't do any changes until you see what happens.

So, I want to put a couple of smaller fish in this tank. What would you suggest? The previous owner had an algae problem that I cured by putting most of the LR in my 180g. The tangs took care of the green stuff in a couple of days. What could I put in there to take care of the alage? Keep in mind, I'm not runing a lid, so no jumpers!

Good score. Looks like it will end up a GSP tank pretty soon, like the way it grows on the back wall.
For the algae really depends on what type you are talking about. Hermits and snails are pretty good for most stuff. Not sure if algae Blennies are jumpers or not but they are cool fish, lot of character, and will mow down most shorter types of algae.

being topless, i would be very careful with salinity.
topless + small tank = salinity can go bad very quickly.
just sayin.

It was a lot more work then I thought. Bagged all the corals, put most of the water and LR in buckets, and left about 2 inches of water at the bottom. It was still pretty heavy! It took us a few hours to move and get it up and running.
