my gsp's aren't looking so good

OK...first things first.. I had to move and down graded my tank from a 55 gallon to a 20... but i kept my 250watt mh light on the new smaller tank. I have had the gsp's near the top and center of the tank ...prety much directly under the lamp. Nothing else in my tank is looking worse ( mostly just zoo's) the are in a good flow area...the light is the only thing i can think of, is it too strong now and hurting them? They are still heathly looking it has just thinned out ALOT. thanks

To me that sounds like way too much light for them. I'd move them to the sand bed and see if they improve.
