I recently set up this little HOB refugium out of my emperor filter I had been using for water movement only. I wanted a place for macro algae and didn't want to go with any unsightly in tank options. I think it turned out ok. I still may make some adjustments to it, but for now it seems to be working and the macro is growing nicely.
Here is a shot of the emperor emptied and cleaned with the eggcrate in place. Notice the removal of the bio-wheels.
Here is a picture showing the rock rubble in place:
test fitting the light:
On the tank in operation:
Over all the project was very simple. I deleted the bio wheels by plugging the holes with aquarium putty. The light I am using is a single 18w 12" current PC fixture with dual daylight bulb for better growth. The hardest part was modifying the light stands to fit the filter. I did this by slowly heating up the plastic stands and stretching them until they allowed me enough adjustment to fit the tank. Any questions, comments and suggestions are welcomed
