he keeps jumping into the built in overflow, and when i go in to fish him out and put him back in the main tank he goes nuts trying to get away but he cant. so in turn it really stresses him out. so when i put him back in the main tank he just lays on a piece of rock breathing really heavily. then a few hours later he will be fine. is there anyway to stop him from going in?
Slothy ain't got nothing on him.

Not stupid, he just looking for some place to bury himself.
Jawfish need at least 2.1 inch of mixed substrate including sand of varying grade and small pieces of shll and or reef rubble so that it can construct and burrow. They are also notorious jumper and will lep from an open tank if frightended. Try dim lights gradually to prevent him jumping into the overflow. He will be less likely to do this after he has made a burrow.

Sounds like something ???? frightened him. Maybe try dimining the lights for a few days until he calms himself down.

yea jawfish do suck!! i had mine in the qt for a month and it was covered so he couldn't get out. he was in there with a yellow watchman goby. They both were fine in there. I move them to the main tank with tons of lr and between 3-5 inches of sand. Well i found the jawfish in my sump dead and the goby in the overflow. I fought the goby for a week and he eventually ended up in the sump as well.
