My Lawnmower Blenny....

I love our Lawnmower Blenny. He is a real character. He has this one rock that he likes to sit on- it has a little nook about half way up the rock that he sits in. He kinda perches there with his tail curled upwards.
Last night, i was watching TV, and noticed some activity in the tank. I went over to watch, and there was a hermit crab in my blenny's "nook". He was swimming around looking at it for a minute, and then he did a really funny thing. With his 'nose' he got underneath the hermit and with a flick of his 'neck' he flung the crab and sent it rolling down the rock to the bottom of the tank so he could sit down!
I SWEAR he sat there with the smuggest look on his face! :)
It was really funny!

We love our blenny too- our first one died due to a major tank disaster-- he was great- he would come to the top for us to pet him! no lie!

i really like mine also. at first my girlfriend made fun of him, calling him "the ugliest fish she has ever seen" but after he got settled in, he is one of my favs. i just like watching him swim around.

And when they eat the algae, it looks like they are headbutting the rocks. SO funny. Mine didn't eat from our hands, but my clown does.

our lawnmower actually picks up the snails that get into his nest(or whatever you want to call it) and carries tehm off into the sand and drops them, at least the samller ones, i thought taht was interesting, and we have seen him/her do it many times

How big is your tank? If it isn't large enough, two in the same tank can be a problem if they are not a mated pair- they tend to be agressive towards their own kind, and similar looking fish.

I was doing a little cleaning last week in the tank, as soon as put my hand in the lawnmower pearched right in the palm of my hand.
I never seen a fish do that before.

I am reading all of this discussion of Lawn mower Blennys and I'm intriged. Is "lawnmower" a nickname? I have a link to ***********.com and it discusses most of the available saltwater fish and I am not findinf anything labled "lawnmower" Could one of you please give the proper name?
BTW, we have a large male scooter blenny and 2 females. They play "tag" all of the time. ;)

We call our lawnmower blenny "Benny the Blenny". He is the only fish that lets (even likes) the cleaner shrimp to clean him. I love to watch him chow down on the algae wafers!
