i'm betting your rock is live. if you are referring to the visible fauna that lives on the outside of the rock, dying because of lack of light, then don't worry about it. the bacteria on the surface, and in all the nooks and crannies of the rock are what makes it "live".
alot of times, you are better off without all that plant life, and the sponges will probably die off when you get the new light anyway. the good news is, new stuff will grow later on down the line.

The rock is probably still alive esp. the stuff that we just bought....the biggest problem that we are having is that our tank has no color all the rock is white and the stuff that we just purchased that had color (ie. purple, green,....etc) is turning white!!! We are wondering how to get the rock back to the purple and green color and get stuff to grow back onto the rock so we can have that amazing color of the saltwater tank!!!???

Light is all that is needed. Don't bother with adding additives into the tank. Just a good light cycle.

Thank you for the help.....new to the saltwater thing and a friend and myself just kinda dove in feet first and got in over our heads and now trying to recover before anything bad happens....we Just got a Satellite 4x65 with 2 Day lamps and 2 Actinic lamps with the lunar lighting (ps tank def looks baller at night)....now I just wish that I could put a pic up....light has been up for almost a week, rock is starting to regain some color, however, it looks like there is alot ALOT of dead algae that just has the rock coated....we have just bought 10 Mex Turbo Snails, 5 Sally Light Foot Crabs, 2 Emerald crabs, and 25 Cerith Snails to get this clean up started....also our water levels are just a wee bit ok off.....and we are working with the LFS to get that taken care of! Any suggestions on how to get this clean up going faster and get our rock some color back!!!???
