I like it - it looks like he was well fed. Good find Krista where did you get him?
I got him from this site almost 6 months ago. At first, he would only eat pods but I have converted him to frozen. Today was the first time I was able to get good pics.

He looks good Krista. I can never get a pic of mine lol. I had saved him from a lfs a year or so ago, and he looked so sickly. Almost starved. Everyone said, why did you get a fish that could be sick. I said, how could I leave him there when I have a tank full of pods, and nothing to eat them. I am happy to report, he is very fat and happy in the 180g. :)

Thanks everyone! I was a little concerned when I first got him because he was on the thin side and *gasp* I don't have a refugium. I had seeded my tank with pods about 4-5 times before I got him and 3 times after (I think it's time for another seeding). He always liked hanging out in the same corner of the tank, which made it easy to wean my mandy onto frozen foods. I would just use my turkey baster and squirt a little food in his direction. One thing I love about this fish is that he doesn't give a crap about the other fish in the tank. They swim right over him and he doesn't flinch. He just goes about grazing the rocks for pods.

Sooo jealous! Someday I'd like to have a tank capable of keeping a mandy!
Thanks for the pics!

You probably already have one. I would just recommend seeding the tank with lots of pods before getting it. I really didn't set my tank up the traditional way and took a big gamble with a few of the methods I chose. They all worked for me, but I don't advocate anyone do things the way I do. Mandarins are pretty easy to wean to frozen. The key is for them to find an area of the tank they call home. Then, it helps to spot feed the area where the mandarin calls home.

Beautiful fish! I so jealous! I think I'd need many more years of experience and just the right aquarium before I could ever have one though :)

The day will come soon for you. They are a little on the difficult side, but they can make great additions to the tank.

Thanks! To be honest I am just going on my second year of maintaining a SW tank. It's not just the years that count, but the amount of research and following practical advice. I went into SW fish keeping after not being successful with my fresh tank. I did research and then also got advice from this forum. It is all about balancing all the information that you are being given or finding.

Looks great, Krista! They're hard to get pictures of, aren't they. For every picture of my mandarins you've seen on my tank thread, I have to go through 10 or more failed shots. Usually the best pics turn out to be the accidental ones!

Looks pretty healthy and very happy, good job.
Hopefully mine will look that good and I don't have to remove any fish for her.
To tell you the truth the mandarin is pretty much why I got in to SW fish, they are so chill and cool.

Thanks! This mandy is hard to get pics of. It likes to hang out in the back of the tank. I am considering adding him to the seahorse tank, but I am hesitant to do so since he is doing well in my DT.
