My Maxima clam is dying

lets see:
I have a 33 gal, with a percula clown, an Ornate wrasse, green Polyps, a carpet anemone with a anemone crab, 2 blue legged hermits, 3 scarlet hermits, and 5 turbo snails, adn a lot of live rock.
The pH is 8.2, calcium is at 480-500 ppm, Alkalinity is 12, Salinity is 1.023. Is there anything else you need?

most clams require a lot of lights, what is your lighting set up?

Do you see any snails around its mantle with pyramid shaped shells? They will eat your clam. Also what sort of lighting do you have over the tank? And how big is the clam? Most clams 2" and under need to be fed. Over 2" - 3" they need intense lighting to stay alive and grow.

!DUDE YOU DID NOT DO YOUR HOMEWORK, SORRY BUT IT HAS TO GET OUT, CLAMS REQUIRE METAL HALIDE TO THRIVE AND YOU DONT EVEN HAVE 2 WATTS PER GALLON, please find another home ASAP, or return it to the lfs.

to bad, I didnt really want to sound mean, but im just doing it for the sake of the clam. you have two options, return it to another home with metal halides, the cheap and sad way, or to go and buy metal halides, the happy but expensive way.

I don't want to jump on you but you may also want to consider finding a new home for your carpet or upgrading your lights. Just monitor this site from time to time and read the post you will learn alot of information that will help you in the future.

what anemone do you have? I have condis for a few months now that have been doing well with 1.3 watts per gallon and you have 1.2 so depending on what anemone you have you might be ok

Just so you know ~
Clams do not require Metal Halides to live and thrive. I have two clams in my 29 with a lot (225 watts) of VHO lights over them and they love it. It also helps to feed the clams Marine Phytoplankton and mine seem to enjoy baby brine shrimp as well.
You will need to do some serious lighting upgrades if you plan to keep clams and it is very helpful for the anemonies as well. If you have a carpet anemonie it may be okay in your lighting if it is well fed although it would do much better with more lighting. ~ Does the anemonie roam around the tank?? If so, it may be in search of more lighting or current. Good luck and sorry to hear about the clam.

Just a warning on carpet anenomes they eat fish. I took mine back when one of my fish got stuck on it. My lfs has had a naso tang for 5 years in a 200 gallon. They've had a green carpet in there for the past 3 years. A couple days ago they came in to find the carpet had eaten half of the full grown naso and was still chowing down on the rest of it.
