My mini lab for Ammonia is green-thats not a clolor choice??

We have just estabilished a reef tank-its only 4 days old! we just added 26lbs. of live fugi rock. We are trying to test the ammonia and we followed the directions that came with our lab kit (Red sea marine lab) and it gives us a green color-that is not even on the card to be matched with! we have tried twice and were not sure whats happening? Please help!!!!

Your amm. is just high.Give your tank some time to complete it's cycle. It does take time so be paitent. And congradulations on the new tank.

I would go to you lfs and ask them.
Some test kits do not work as they say(bad).
Test kits can be frustrating
Also take a sample of water to them and have them test it.
Let us know the results, ;)

I've never used red sea(strongly suggest salifert)...but it may be a spike above the tests level......try to get a reading from your LFS........will take a while to lower the ammonia......then nitrites/nitrate.....good luck and welcome to the board

I use the red sea test for ammonia---
Make sure that you shake the tube between each chemical that you add for ten seconds, and then you do need to wait for 15 minutes before the color fully developes.... but i agree with Predator- any green at all and you have ammonia that is too high--- your tank is still cycling....
The HARDEST part of this hobby is waiting!
:(
