after leaving my big in ny i started my mini reef about 5 month ago

eclipse 6
retrofit corallife 50/50 hacked top and left existing bulb
rio powerhead
sachem filter sac to double a skimmer
live rock and sand(plenty of it)
pulsing xenia from 2 now 6!
open brain
yellow cup
flower pot
2 types zoanthids
orange sponge
1 clown fry
2 chromis
2 hermits
1 snail (stowaway)
wateer changes done every 3rd day 1 gallon sounds like overkill but i use seawater to preserve the most stable environ i can.
all is doing well, I might have to step up to a 12 gallon system
enjoy!

it looks awsome!!
but everything looks big compared to the tank...
what about getting some more zoos or mushrooms, or jsut somethings that will stay small and spread?
awsome though!!

Hi I own a eclipse 6 tank that is currently empty and would like to retrofit it in the exact same way u did. Could u (or anyone else) tell me what u did and more importantly what u bought and where(the specific models) I am drolling over that light retrofit and would like to apply it to my 2 freshwater eclipse tanks as well. Please reply and thanks. I like to do a nano reef similar to yours so please include info on the filter conversion as well.

hey thanks for the compliment.
filter was untouched except providing a splashguard from the excess plastic i cut away from the top.
buy coralifes smallest 50/50 unit. its about 12 inches long with two bulbs.one blue actinic and one daylight white bulb.
carefully measure the fixture making sure you do not remove the one bulb thats under the existing hood. and dont overcut or else the light fixture will fall into the tank! ver bad thing.
rio powerhead not in my pictures can just be added for extra circulation.
good luck
and thanks again!

for the light i found these two, theres one looks like the one u have but its only 9 inches
and another one is twelve inches and twice as bright but silver
is that the one i want? And i use the same carbon filter and biowheels i use in my freshwater tanks?(new of course). i thought carbon was bad for SW. And could u please explain how u cut the lid? i though u just took it off and sat the light on top of it. Sorry if im annoying down't want to do this wrong and have to order a new lid.... I tried to add links to the lights on ---- but posting links is apparently not friendly on this board, why must it be complicated to copy and past FFS!

no problem at all...
first remove lid and place upside down on firm surface. take the time to remove existing light fixture so that you dont rupture the bulb and ruin the ballast.
next trace the nine inch light not the lager silver one. yes its brighter but most of the light will end up on the hood and who knows maybe even melt the darn thing.
the wattage on the 9 inch version is plenty anyway and cheaper.
remove the portion of the lid that flaps up and down. so youll be first cutting the hood then the flap. i was able to keep the flap functional to aid in eliminating splash.
i used a seraited kitchen knife ( dont know if i spelled it right). so that i was able to saw.
i was going to use sheers but i was afraid of shattering the lid. after tracing the fixture my final opening was about half inch in on each side so that the fixture did not end up in the water (deep frying your livestock)
on the existing undermounted light leave the white plastic tray that holds the bulb in place on there since you can use it as a guide and not ruin the on off button on the hood.
then just put it all back together again using the excess plastic as a splash guard over the filter media. good luck!
the final product youll see that the coral life fixture will cover a tiny bit of the on off switch on the hood but thats ok it beets lighting the media on the back side of hood.
carbon is verry ok for salt water.. although many argue for and against it at the end of the day the chemical filtration is essential(expecially in this mini thing.
fyi the middle coral is lots like a snow ball in apperance its real name is a flowerpot and from my experience reacts much like an open brain although not as liberal to stay open all day.
good luck keep me posted. :cheer:
