So, how much flow do you want in your tank 10X, 20X, (your "middle" and my middle might be a little different :D )
And what kind/size sump do you have...?
Powerheads...C/L...?

I'm makeing a 29Gal sump i can put a ball vale in if it want work the pump to hard to slow the flow. i updated the overflow to the bigger hole pipe is 1 1/4". SQUIDD build it like it was yours :D i still have to buy the pump and lights. the pump is next so i an get it cycled by that time i can get some nice lights. I want the back to be a clean as possiable. Thats why i wanted to know if i can use loc line with a Y fitting and have 4 return ports in different directions. I'm still new at all this and need lots of help. water testing you can control but plumbing make the wrong choose

Just so we're talking bout the same thing here....First post...
Its a 135 glasscage 72X18X25 duel overflow and return. 2" overflow and 1 1/2" return.
Then...
Just builted the standpipes 1 1/4 " now it's time to fig. out the returns it's a 1 1/2" hole dose the pipe need to be that big
Then...
i updated the overflow to the bigger hole pipe is 1 1/4".
I'm having a hard time following here...so How big are each of the holes in the tank...and what size "bulkhead" did you put in each...??
I'm "thinking" your set for 1" ID standpipes and 3/4" ID returns, but you might have something different...

I'm a little  the holes in the tank are 2" and 2 3/4".
I screwed a 1 1/4" fitting into the 2 3/4 bulkhead so my supply is 1 1/4". I then screwed a 1" fitting into the 2" bulk head to have a 1" return. That was just how big the holes were in the bottom of the tank. So i am assumeing they are really 1" and 1 1/4 " correct me if im wrong. This is my first predrilled tank.

No that's cool...I just wanted to be sure we're talking about the same thing...:)
"Sometimes" some people talk about the OD of the pipe rather than ID or I'll hear...
"I dilled a 1" hole in my tank for an overflow...now what do I do..?"
(not much, you can't even put a 1/2" bulkhead in a 1" ..."hole"...)
OK, so now let's narrow down a few more items...
1. 29 gallon sump..."ALL" 29 gallons for the sump ??...or are you going to divide this out into a "sump/fuge" and by the time add baffles and lower the water level you end up with 7 gallons for a sump...??
2. "Middle flow" for softie/reef/fish...135 gallon tank...I'm thinking 10X is too low...20X is where reefs are headed...(many pushing 30X) So, 15X turnover or ~2000 gph (in tank/after head loss etc...)
is "middle"...??? Is that where YOU want to set "Goal Flow"...??
3. Do you want to push all that flow from the sump...? You can with the size oveflows you have...we can get a pump that big...But you will need ALL 29 gallons for "sump only" to deal with "turbulance" and bubble/baffle/control...
5. I don't believe in, or reccomend, "ball valves" to control pumps...I say "calc" it out and get the right pump the fist time round...
6. Be aware that if thinking of a Fuge as well your looking at an extra tank...due to flow issues above...No problemo, as long as you have the room for it...(i'm thinking a 40 "breeder" would be perfect...

I have a 29gal tank if i use it just for a sump will i have to put a divider in it with some LR to take care of the bio load :notsure: i will be getting a skimer so how would i put that in with a heater. i want to get it up and cycled soon so my $$$ now will be for the pump and skimmer and RO filter. I can do the sump/fuge later. i want to get the flow from the sump also.

29 gallon all sump...good call...
Live Rock for "filtration" should be in the tank save the room in the" sump" for equipment...
Ad Fuge later...good...
All flow from sump at this point..OK...HOW MUCH...???
Skimmer and heater go in the sump...
Divide sump tank "kind of" like this...
