My "new" 75 gal drilled tank

I just got what I think was a great deal-a drilled 75 gal tank for $60.00. My question to the forum is this: The corner overflow is made of glass and has NO teeth cut in it. Its just the flat edges of the glass. Has anyone ever heard of this? Should I make two pieces out of acrylic and silicone them on top of the overflow? Right now its just the bulkhead going out of the bottom of the tank, I'm thinking about setting up a Durso standpipe in there. Any help wopuld be greatly appreciated.

No flat edges are fine ,in fact they are better.Flat allows for a larger skimming surface ,the only reason for the teeth are to keep livestock out of the overflow. You can accomplish the same thing with egg crate. My overflow is 2' long with a flat edge.
Congrats on the new tank.Pics?

Yup it will surface skim just fine providing you have it level.

One more question-my skimmer cover is clear glass. How can i darken it up to try and prevent algae from growing? is there a safe paint to use?

I would think any ordinary paint that dosent eat away acrylic would be fine as long as its not in constant direct contact with with your tank water.

everything is glass-no acrylic at all. hmm-that would rule out paint since it would be in diect contact with the water. how bad do you think the algae would be if i just left it clear?
