My new Bangaii's

This isn't the best picture of them, but I'd like to show off my new Bangaii's. I added one last week, and then regretted not getting two right off the bat (there were three together at the LFS). So I decided to go back this week to try to pick a mate. I knew the odds weren't in my favor, but I have someone nearby that I could give one to if they didn't get along.
I think I just may have lucked out. As soon as the second one went in, it went right to the other Bangaii, and they have been together most of the time since. I'm going to try to get a better pic of them and see if anyone wants to guess if they're male and female.

Actually, I paid $19.99 each, which I thought was a really good price for a LFS. They had them for a couple of weeks, and they were eating like pigs so I knew they were healthy too!

Thanks! They seem to be super healthy!
They won't touch flake, but anything else I put in is fair game -- mysis, brine shrimp & marine cuisine. I actually need to stock back up on my frozen food since they're eating so well!

Are they tank bred? I was looking on another site and was amazed by the difference between a tank bred and wild.
wild-$13.99
tank bred-$29.99
The site has a minimum order of $29.99 though, so it's better either way. But, shipping is $34.99, so I'm going to see if a lfs has them first, there's a nice one an hour and a half away. Nice buy!

Bangaiis can be tricky sometimes, and them doing great in a system I would say is after the 6 month mark. I do say that having them eating that well, and sticking together is a GREAT sign. Best of luck to you!! Next thing you know the male will be carrying babies!

Thanks for the well wishes!
Oh, yes. I know that it's way too early to be declaring victory on them. I was just excited that there was no initial aggression and that they started hanging out together right away. I know they can be picky eaters too, so I was really amazed to see them eating so heartily already.
It will be a long time before there are any updates on babies, but I'm hoping we're on the right track! Time will tell.

The second one appears to be the male from the jaw. Good luck, they will spawn if the tank is to their specs.

Second is the male they love mysis shrimp they are night feeders hence the big eyes but will eat in the daytime tank born are larger then wild caught hence the higher price you either got a good deal or they were wild

Aloha, looks like you have a pair, great job picking one out. The one on the right looks like a male to me.

My 16 little babies are still doing great!

I have an update! Everyone was right; the one on the right is definitely the male. As of around 4:00 p.m. today, I noticed he is holding eggs!

Sorry about my pic not showing up in the first post anymore. I did a little housekeeping on Photobucket awhile back so it broke the link, and the post must be too old to edit it now. Anyway, here they are again. The only difference is the female is now missing most of her front dorsal fin. It came up missing a couple of weeks ago, so apparently they had a lover's quarrel and the male chewed it off.

how can u tell if it is a male or a female, and are they like clownfish do they change ---?

No, they don't change, and it is usually pretty hard to tell them apart. The males have a bit more of a square jaw, sort of a bulldog type appearance. The males tend to have longer dorsal fins too. Even then, it's a bit of a guess, especially if they're not fully mature.

Actually, he was just yawning or something in that picture.
That picture was taken when I first got him back in February.
I can't get a new picture of him right now because we're painting our living room, and we have furniture piled up in front of the tank which is in our dining room. I will post a new pic of him as soon as I can get a clear shot of the tank.

Congratulations!!!!
Now what? Are you going to have a holding tank ready for the babies? If so, get ready to breed BBS and not go anywhere for about 4 months after they are born. Did I mention they need to be fed 5xs a day?
With all that said, it's fun to see the little tikes grow up. I still have two from my last batch and they are still pretty small but very cute. (They are 21 weeks old.)
Oh, guess what? My male is also holding again, for the third time. The last time he only held them for about 1 week and then I guess he got hungry.
Two weeks later I noticed he was holding again. We'll see if he keeps them this time, but I hate to say the little fry will be on their own as I just don't have time to raise another batch.

I'm going to give it a shot! Luckily I work from home so I am here to be able to do the feedings. I already have most of what I need, and I'm heading out in a few to pick up the rest to get the nursery tank going. I don't know how successful I'll be, but I'm going to try.

Well, I'm sure you will do fine. Maybe it will help knowing I didn't know what I was doing when I first started.
And yet I still had 16 babies survive, and according to Frank, is great. Have fun and I look forward to seeing pics of those little babies.
