my new candy cane...

My daughter (Lolly1) came home this weekend with this awesome coral. After acclimation, he looks like he already owns the place. We are pretty sure that it's a candy cane, or trumpet coral, but I don't remember having seen them in such dark colors!!
Also, she took a small rock of pink zoos from my tank to put into hers. They're open and doing great today, so we're really excited...now we have 2 tanks to have fun with :jumping:
Comments welcome.

Much thanks for the nice comments!! AND, there is method to my madness, the space where the rock with the pink zoos was that Lolly1 took home is now vacant...
Sounds like another coral to me.

yeah, those are candy canes...the only ones I've seen in those colors. I have been originally looking for the run of the mill pastel colored ones. I think I'll still get those as well. I do, after all, have a vacant spot in my tank now...

Not really sure what you're getting at? Many times I know that hitch hikers come in on live rock and live sand...could be anything from corals to anenomes to starfish to sponges. Many, many times that's where the ID posts come in...these things just kinda show up in someone's tank, and they need to know how to deal with it.

The lfs don't always have coral experts on hand to identify all their stock. I know my lfs has 1 person (the owner) who knows corals, the rest of the staff isn't knowlegable, and they will tell you if you aren't sure what it is, and its requirements don't buy it until the owner is there, alot of us here including Lisa can pick out certain corals without the experts help. I have bought afew I had no idea what they were, and came here for an ID, if you have good lighting, you can get almost anything anyway.

ya one fish store that i just look at has a guy that comes once a week to make sure everything is doing fine, i think if your going to take to time to sell it at least do a little research, once i went in there and they had a sun coral and of course during the day its just orange and kind of nothing to see and i asked the lady how it was doing cuz it had been there a while and she said she was so disapointed with it cuz it looked nothing like the pic
and i said ummm i think they are nocturnal and she was amazed i couldnt believe it she also had a flowerpot that was dieing and she was trying to deny it and i thought to my self hummm its got brown jelly and the flesh has receted since it has been here i think its dieing. i have told them about sites that( such as this one) that would help them but so far they arent takeing the bait

Thank you very much!! I really love them already, and they're fitting right in. I would post more pics of them, but those 2 shots really say it all...they're beautiful, and I'm a happy camper :joy:
Keep the comments coming.
Oh, and if anyone has significant knowledge regarding elevated nitrates...please see Lolly1's (my daughter) post in the new hobbiest forum. I've already given her my .02 worth on the situation, but I also suggested she come here for more advice. Thank you!!

Sorry, she's been keeping an eye on those for me for well over a week at her LFS...an hour away. She had some great help from the LFS with making sure that the corals would make the trip...and we made sure that they would acclimate well into their new home...so far so good and looking just beautiful!!
Definitely a LFS success story...but then most of mine have been so far...
