very nice, I recently setup a 7 gallon, do you add anything to your tank or does a water change do it ?

Here's a shot showing my three maximas (I have a squamosa on the sand too). I completed my purple, blue, and green combo I was going for...
On another note... Also, whoever says you cannot grow sps and clams under PCs, or in a nano for that matter, is flat out wrong. I agree that it isn't easy or for beginners, but yes they can thrive and have awesome colors! STOP THE DISINFORMATION! In this pic alone you see Monti digitata (purple tip), green and pink pocillopora, green hydnophora, and my green staghorn with blue tips. DO THESE LOOK BROWNED OUT? There are a thousand factors that contribute to a healthy reef, and everybody always blames their problems on lighting! Yes metal halides are ideal on larger tanks and penetrate further, but PCs provide adequate lighting at shallow depths...
didn't mean to go on a rant, but I'm tired of people who have no idea what they're talking about saying it's impossible... if you go nano and are experienced, anything is possible...

Hey plum... I dose a half gallon of full strength kalk a night, and now on top of that dose 2 mLs of calcium chloride a day to keep my calcium up around 450... I do a gallon and a half water change a week... every other additive is food related, 10 mL of DT's every other day, selcon, baby brine shrimp, a boat load of frozen stuff, and whatever comes from my fuge.
On a side note I spent a lot of my childhood in Coral Springs (relatives), off of Sample Road, and my Mom now lives in Parkland. Place was like a second home growing up... anyway I thought that was cool that your from there... maybe we could meet up when I go down there next...

HERE HERE!!! I second that one Johnny! I have a mxima that is identical to the small one on the bottom left of your last pic that has doubled in size in 6 months. I keep my levels stable, and it is up high in the tank, I dose DT's regularly, and have seen incredible growth. THere is a white lining on the lip of the clam all the time. It is now about 4 1/2 - 5 inches, with great coloration. I was told would die under my lighting in a month.

Thanks all...
Kipass, the tanks been up for almost a year now, with most of the corals being in there for over six months... I don't know if you could do sps, but your lighting is sure suitable... try a Monti digitata first... as I said it's more than lighting... stable levels and feeding matter too...
Amen Justin... every successful clam has a white lining :D

hi plum, not to steal johnny's thread, but I have a mixima under 72 watts in a 15 gallon and it does fine, so 72 in a 7 gallon should be great. Good luck,
Tiffany

Plum, you definately have the light for a clam in the 7 gallon, and if you feed phyto I don't see why not, I keep my pH stable with a specific kalk drip at night (my wife calls me crazy when I'm going 1,2,3 with the watch in my hand:D ). Go for the clam though, and I recommend a pH monitor (Pinpoint pH). If you want try with a small squamosa, but maximas should be fine up high as mine are...
So you're by Coral Square Mall I think? I'll definately shoot you an e-mail when I'm down there next...

Those are awesome T. Maxima's, Johnny! I can't beleive that's all in a 10 gallon!
On a side note,
I'm curious how much growth you're getting on your SPS corals? Also, what's the wattage and kelvin rating on those PC's?
Take Care,
Graham

Hey graham... one 36 watt 10k PC and one 36 watt actinic... the growth I'm getting is definately varying, and is much slower than in a larger tank with halides, but obviously in a nano you have less room to fill, so "relative growth" is about the same:D . The digitata is flying, and the green stag frag is growing at 4 tips pretty fast which surprised me. FWIW when I set my 180 back up I'm leaning towards 3x400 watt ushio 10ks with 2 160 watt actinic VHOs... but that may change. Anyway when that happens I'll have all my starter sps frags... then I'll just fill it out with some blue torts, purple monster, some solis... :D oh do I have plans for my system... that's why my 10 gallon has 180 gallons worth of ideas :D Thanks again Graham...

yeah it's awesome... mine just sort of hung out for a while, then finally adapted and now is growing a little as you can see by the white tips... the green pocilli has gone mad! (in a nano sense:D) Best of all my frag was free... gotta love reef clubs ;)

i asked a question awhile back about me putting in a clam in my 15 gallon with 72 watts PC. The main problem i found out was that the clam might out grow my 15.
Is there a clam that wont outgrow my 15?

The smallest Tridacna clam includes the T. Crocea. Unfortunatly, this happens to be one of the most light-loving clams. Many low-light clams, including the T. Derasa and T. Gigas, will outgrow your aquarium. I you were to get a clam (which I personally discurage) your best choice would most likely be the T. Squamosa. I personally wouldn't buy any clam to put under Florecent lighting when they would do so much better under Halides.

Graham
