might be old bulbs? they look like they are in lower K so I dont think its the K value dimming it to the eye.
20k will make tank look dim. but thats only to the eye. 10k usually look bright but fade the color. You have seen pics of my tank. Its with 10k AND 20k at same time. You know that they need a few minutes to get up to full intensity right

Yea I let them run tonight for a couple hours and then put the PCs back on.. The bulbs are 10k hams and about8mo old.. I shouldve got new bulbs from ups today but I guess they will be here tomorrow.. Those are 14k hams.. I am comparing month old PC bulbs to 8mp old halide bulbs.. maynot be fair I dunno.

for the record. I love Hamilton, but thier 10k bulbs are among the worst out there. Even worse then the no name ones that come in Generic fixtures believe it or not.
I am sure the new bulbs will wake you lighting up quite a bit.

Your 14k wil really put some snap in the colors in the tank too. If you have a zoo, ry doing one bulb at a time and then moving the rock from one side to the other. The difference will be amazing.
Make sure and post new pics with the 14k

Your a worse night owl than I am... I just finished my acrylic build and cant sleep waiting for the leak check for my handiwork. I always wonder how many others on these boards are up all night moving rockwork till 3am or playing with powerheads ect.
I know better then to think I am the only one with such goofey habits.

MH dont "look" that bright but bright enough. Flourescence always look brighter to me but you can see every detail with MH. every particle in the water. I think alot of it has to do with the shimmer effect that seems to shifts the light around so much. there are certain areas that get hit with real bright rays though. coralline drops dead and turns white in those areas.
