I've had a Sabae clown hosting a Sabae anemone for about 8 months, and I'd always wanted to get her a mate but could never find another Sabae clown locally. Well I finally found one and he went into the tank this past weekend. As I knew would happen, she went straight at him and started nipping at him for the first day or so, but she's alot less aggressive now. She charges at him, but no more nipping. He's still not submitted to her totally, he still twitches and turns his back to her.
She of course has the anemone as her territory and he kind of roams around but has taken one front corner as his where I have a featherduster. It's funny to watch because he is hosting the feather duster. He's not aggressively hosting it, but I have seen him take food back to it and also get in the middle of it and 'wallow' around like she does with her anemone.
Another funny thing that I saw on the second or third day is while she was away from the anemone behind the rocks he found it and dived right in the middle. She came back up and was under the anemone while he was on top and it took her about 30 seconds or so until she figured out he was there. Of course she popped up and ran him out, but then he went under the anemone while she was on top. It was just funny to see one peeking out the bottom and the other on top like they were playing hide and seek. This happened about 3 times before she finally ran him completely away from her anemone.
I don't have a question or anything like that, I just wanted to share my experience with watching my new clownfish. I know that it could take months before she will accept him and let him in the anemone, if she even ever does. But I'm hoping that they will pair up eventually.
