My new trig!

Picked this guy today, very excited. Been after one for a while now. Actually wanted him before I put a Sargassum on my stocklist. But switched since I would probably find the Sarg first. Well, I couldn't let this Lei stay at the LFS. He's quite large, almost 6" (check out the hand photo). He's in my 55QT for the time being with my Spiny Burrfish. Already eating scallops and silversides with gusto, 20 mins in.

Actually neither. It's a Lei Trigger, Sufflamen Bursa, not directly related to the (common named) Bursa or Assasi. The name Bursa, for whatever reasons, almost always refers to Rhinecanthus verrucosus

Sufflamen's are said to be rather passive as far as triggers go, on the same level as Blue Jaw's and Sargassums.

Thanks guys!
Yea Hammer, I've seen a few available back in Ft. Lauderdale, (north of $100 too), and this was the first time I've seen one in the greater Orlando area (actually way out in Palm Bay, for the locals).

I know where you can get a nice Sargassum if your still wanting....
Yea, that sucks that Tangers got laid off. I know I won't be able to meet his asking price, but I'll probably submit him an offer later in the week if he's still got the Sarg.

Being we are buddies and all, I hope you don't mind my asking....Why would you ever get a Lei instead of a Sargassum?!?

Again, hope you don't take offense.
Just not my favorite Trigger, especially for the price they usually get out of Hawaii.

Live Aquaria had a couple Sargassums just a few days ago(they're listed as redtails). I'd have bought one myself if I had the money right now.

Well, made an offer and he accepted, so now I have my second tigger, a beautiful, very fat, 4" Sargassum. He was in the previous owners tank, with 5 tangs that all were doing great, so I felt comfortable adding him right to the display, instead of QT'ing.
No in-tank pics yet. Went into the rocks, unsurprisingly, he chose the Blueface's cave, and it took about 25 minutes of tail slapping, to get him out to the next cave. Will post pics tomm, when he's out.

Well, he's being a bit timid, not suprising for a newly intro'd Xanthichthys trigger. Here's some pics of him tucked away.

Sargassums are great fish! When I first put mine in the DT, he hid on and off for a few days but after that he adjusted quickly.

aquaknight,
Great sargassum...
you said you have a burrfish? I got one today! He's tiny(about 1 1/2") and has little yellow spines with little dark brown/black spots on him. I couldn't find a burrfish online that looked the same????

How are they? hows their personality?

Hard lesson learned for the Naso yesterday, you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

For whatever reason, the Naso hasn't given the Sarg the warmest welcome. Which is quite surprising, given the general calmer, friendlier nature of Naso's. Anyway, what the Naso was doing was circling around the Sarg, very fast, like a couple revolutions a second. Not sure if he was actually swiping at the Sarg, but the Sarg just stayed calm, till I think the Naso actually might have got the Sarg, which he REEEALLLY didn't like, and then chased to chase the Naso himself, with his teeth clicking away, I was about 8 feet away from the tank, and could hear him chomping. He only bit like twice, just at the water to, I guess, a display to the Naso, but it was more enough to scare the living jesus out of the Naso and he took off.
They shared some seaweed last night before lights out, so I think all is well, and grudges are settled. I think the Naso was just a jerk because they are almost identical in length, and have very similiar body shaped. I would have thought that the Naso would be able to tell it's a completely different type of fish, but who knows...

Congrats on the second new Trig Shawn!!!
Great story too. Sargassums may be "passive", but they are still Triggers.
Cool vid of the Lei Trig too, I love the 2 Chromis (at least look like Chromis?) wanting a piece of clam, but not daring to get too close

Will the 2 end up in the same tank? What is your full stock list in that tank? Sorry if I missed it.
