I finally have gotten my first anemone. I'm so excited! He also came with a tomato clownfish. I named the clown Mator like the one truck from the movie Cars.
I was told this is a BTA anemone. I wish I could tell the difference between the BTA's and LTA's. Because when I think of bubble tip I think of the kind that have the actual bubbles like bubble algae does. It doesnt really matter. This guy is a beautiful green color and he has a new home.

The tenticles can become long and stringy when the animal is hungry, also old age can make this happen to them. I have two of them and one is long and stringy and the other(split from the other) has short tents with more of a bubble tip.

Give it a few days to adjust . What lighting do you have ? How old is your tank ? Some BTAs don`t have bubble tips if they are under fed or not enough light .

I have MH lights. 2 X 150W plus a couple VHO actinic bulbs in a 55G.
Tank has been set up for about 9 months.
The person I bought the anemone from said it was a BTA so that is all I have to go by.

One way to tell is by where the anemone choses to place itself. M.doreensis (AKA LTA) will prefer to burry its foot ine a sand substrate, whereas an E.quadricolor (AKA BTA) will like to attach in a crevas of some rockwork. There are rare exceptions to the rule. A better way to ID them is an M.doreensis will have verrucae (dot on the column or underside of the oral disc) that will be in rows, whereas a an E.quad (BTA) will not have verrucae

Nice looking anemone
Its really unknown what causes bubbles/no bubbles. I have played with many scenarios including feeding/not feeding, a lot of light/little light, fish/no fish, etc... Bubbles come and bubbles go. Sometimes part of the anemone will have bubbles, and the other half will not.. 3-4 E quads in the same tank same lighting, etc.. some bubble, some dont, and they are all from the same "parent colony.

Thank you for that bit of info Rod. The anemone must surely be a BTA then as he had his foot placed in the crevice of a large piece of LR. I bought the rock and the anemone from the person selling them. The anemone has moved but he still has his foot planted in a crevice.
