My next step

Well so far so good. I got a utube over flow at 800 gph. It has a minor leak but can be fixed. So dose my plumbing so no big deal. I have nova extreme pro t5 48'' fixture on order from the lfs. It will not be here for a while but thats fine there is nothing in the tank as you can see. My overflow still cant keep up with my return pump. I have to keep it turned almost all the way down so it dont overflow my DT. So I figure I am going to buy another one for the other side of the DT. That should do it or I will have to rethink the plumbing of the return pump a little. My question is what would be some good power heads for my tank. I forget what the lfs has but they come in stage 1, 2, 3, and 4. They also have Rio's. Well here are the pics of what I have so far. Any comments will be greatly appreceated. Sorry for the many long posts but like I said before in another post. I am just trying to get it right from the start. Dont plan on haveing corals just yet but will soon. Thanks again you all have not stered me wrong yet.

For powerheads I'd go with Hydor Koralias.. There definitely the best for the price unless you have an unlimited budget and can afford tunze pumps. If you want to create a reef your water turnover rate should be 20-30 times the volume of your tank. In my case I have a 55 gal and I have a Koralia 2
(600gph) and a Koralia 3 (850gph) for a total of 1450gph... about 26x turnover rate... I keep sps so the more flow the better. Stay away from rio's, they are known to mechanically fail and short out tanks, not a good thing....

hey Robert...
your tank reminded me of my start....urhhh

yeah....it was a mixed feeling of nervous, excited, happy, worried, and back to nervous back to excited and so on.
anyhoo, I can tell you that by the end of first yr, you will have this thinking, "darn, how come my tank is so small, gotta do something with the overcrowded situation".
but enjoy it now, it should be the fun time.
I would plan carefully with the whole water circulation from the tank to the DT, cuz I can't tell you how much headache I've been dealing with my skimmer and filters when they overflowed and spilled onto my carpet and soak it wet with saltwater. You have to think of many scenarios like what if the power is out then start again, will the tank overflow? What if the pump is out, will the tank overflow? what if.....what if what if....urh.....I am still nervous about my tank after a year and something without any spilling. I've got everything backed up nicely now, but still feel like the water will get overflowed anytime..it's weird.
Anyway, good start, keep up the good work, you will love it

hey robert,
Looking good man. You are on your way. I would say + 1 with the koralias. Dude Along with my 4 return values the come out in 4 different places in my tank from my return pump I have 2 Koralias hydor koralias 4's and I have so much flow in my 110g custom tall it never stops moving not even the botton.
That is a great flow choice. Are you going to keep your skimmer in the middle man ?

Cool guys thanks koralias thats what they have. Iwill go with errattiq that sounds about right for my 55. And yeah I have feard about water on my carpet thats why it is on my porch right now. I am starting to get and understanding on how overflows work. I think with another 800 gph overflow. hooked to 2 spreader bars 1 on top and 1 on the bottom. With a couple koralias I should be good. Thanks guys
