I currently have a biocube 29 that is just getting too big. I can't stop going to Premium Aquatics and buying coral! So... I found this awesome deal on Craigslist and couldn't pass it up. It's an Oceanic 58g reef ready tank and stand and 20g reef ready sump. It had the glass fold up top and Coralife 36" 2 bulb pc fixture. I got it for $165. Just got the plumbing done and getting ready to leak test it.

Well there you go!! Nice deal.
I would maybe put the PC's back on Craigslist for sale and look at a new fixture IF you are going for more light hungry corals. If you are just planning on doing low light ones the fixture is just fine (may need new bulbs though). I am only saying this because you said you can't stop buying corals.

What types have you been picking up?? What are your plans for the new tank?

Thanks, already on top of the lighting. Just got in my led order yesterday. Gonna do a whole dimmable light fixture with 3w LEDs. Im thinking of gutting the pc fixture and mounting my led heatsink in it for a clean look. Thinking of picking up a two bulb t5 to supplement it. I also have a 400w mh fixture with 2 pc actinics I can use. I mainly like lps, but also have some sps. Here is my 29

Thanks, I bought it from someone that had it running. I bought it with the sand, rock, and water. I've had it running and adding livestock for 5 months.

Well, all the water is in now and the system is running. I have decided to go with a filter sock and skimmer in chamber 1, fuge in 2, and return pump in 3.

The sand is in. Went to Premium today and picked up a couple of goodies. A new pump for my skimmer, filter sock holder, and mh bulb.

Does anyone have any tips on rockscaping? How to keep it together without building an elaborate PVC tower?

I typically bury the larger rocks in the sand and let them touch the bottom glass. It gives them a great deal of stability. Then i stack large rocks on top and use tonga shelf rock to make bridges and caves. Caverns and such are also nice and provide swimming room for fish. You could use some mortar mix from marcorocks and zip ties to really get the design you want.

Not much to update. The system is running well and I have the skimmer in and running. I picked up a nice filter sock holder from Premium. Just waiting to finish my led fixture before I transfer.

Finally, i can give some major updates. I bought this tank because my biocube was getting too small and I needed to transfer everything. I ran into a few problems with both tanks in the meantime and didn't make the progress I was hoping for. I almost lost all the coral in the biocube and I had some sort of outbreak in the 58 that killed my fish. I lost a lyretail anthia, yellow tang, flame angel, Christmas wrasse, and a goby. So I had to wait to get both tanks healthy. I hung a 400w halide fixture w/two 12" actinic pc bulbs over the 58 until I can finish my led build. Last week I transferred everything from the biocube and sold it. So here is the big unveiling finally! I'm very happy with it and have been adding some more coral. Im maxed an my bioload with 9 fish. But I like all the fish and I'm not having any problems with nutrients. Tell me what you guys think. I'll try to get some better pics up as well.

The tank is now all running through an Aquacontroller 3. I love this thing! I can monitor and control everything from my iPad and iPhone. I have one dc4hd and a dc8 and the lunar sim module.

wow... that's some serious electrical work. Thanks for letting us know how you like that controller. Keep testing it out and see if there is anything else you would change or see if it doesn't do some things that you want it to do. It's cool that you can control it with a wireless device!
Your tank is looking really good. I'm jealous right now! I can't wait until I can get my lighting system up and going. Just waiting on my work place to start picking up some more work. Looking forward to seeing some growth progression shots on those SPS corals you got. :D
Your progress in the hobby is going very well! I wish you much success!

It looks more daunting than it actually is. I don't think I have any real complaints about the controller yet. I also hooked up the lunar sim module and am really liking it too. I just keep finding more and more that it can do. Next, I think I'm gonna hook up a camera pointed at the tank so that I can check in on my tank from anywhere also. You're jealous of my tank?! Yours is coming along great and I'm sure will look even better when you start stocking. I've been following your build and like the placement of your tank and all the angles you can view it from. Wish I could have done mine like that but space is limited.

Made my own carbon reactor today and got it hooked up on the tank. Built from a regular whole house filter and runs off a maxijet 400.
