my paly fragging story

so yesterday i had to frag some palys for another member on this board. there were two different types. i had to do this before school, and right after i brushed my teeth and what not to go to school.
so i swore i washed my hands but i guess not. i had an egg sandwich for breakfast and it tasted sorta funny, kinda like metal. i didnt think much of it (lol, idk why). so i got home from school and i was eating some entenmans(sp?) cake and that tasted funny too. im thinking to myself what could have happened that everything im eating tastes like metal. then it hit me. i remember reading a story awhile back about some guy who fragged some palys, had the slime on his hands and touched his mouth. he had a metal taste in his mouth for like a month or something like that. so i started freaking out, but i didnt say anything to my parents, cause i know they'd throw a fit. i ate dinner, yup, everything still tasted like metal.
so i brushed my teeth and went to bed, hoping it would be gone by the morning. and yes it was.
so moral of the story, wash your hands after fragging palythoas.
kinda random, but i was worried i was gunna be sitting in the hospital or something today explaining what a paly is to some DR., and why i got some of it in my mouth.
idk, discuss?

You got lucky that it was (apparantly) a very low amount that made it into your system. it gives me the shivers. I forgot to wear gloves the other day tile sawing up some zoas, after watching the vid I was shocked to see I didnt have gloves on. it gave me the heebie jeebies. skin crawling kind of heebie jeebies.
hey post a picture of the palys you were fragging. that would be a way for people to know for sure that those ones contain palytoxin.

at first i was pissed. then i was just like hopefully itll be gone in a day or two. i doubt theres anything the hospital would have been able to do anyway. i guess i just got lucky. those palys slime like crazy.
it was the whitish speckly palys you sent me, and some green with long skirts. i dont have pics right now, but both were slimeing like crazy.
maybe i should do a taste test to see which ones it was?

You gotta wear gloves when fragging man. Simple step could be a life or death situation. If, for some reason your allergic, you could get really sick. Always wear gloves and still wash your hands after.

Oh, um yeah about those palys I sent you... they do contain palytoxin.

fortunatly they dont contain it in levels like the "palythoa grandis" does. if it had been one of those chances are you would be in the hospital.

chances are both of them contain it. i believe the other guy i got the other palys from said those contain palytoxin as well.

my tank is full of sps, and even when fragging i havent noticed any negative effects on them.

I watched that vid the other day and I was thinkin', Look at the crazy SOB. I have heard lots of horror stories of palytoxin. I would look like I was performing heart surgery if I was doing that.

i honestly dont see a need for gloves unless i had an open wound or something on my hands. this was just lack of safety on my part. i usually wash my hands after fragging, it just slipped my mind because i was already late for school.

I honestly don't see a need for a seatbelt until after the head-on collision....
Safety first.
