My anenome died suddenly the other day and I am sooooo sad because it is the first one that I have ever had!!
Does anyone know if crabs will pick at anenomes enough to kill them? because I have seen my emerald crab yank on the tentacles before but nothing like what happened to the anenome although I did see the crab hanging by him for a while.
When I pulled my anenome out of the tank I noticed that it had like a big chunk out of the foot of it.
I have no idea what happened and would truly appriciate any advice because I really dont want this to happen to my other anenome.

Sorry to hear about the anemone. I hope that you are running some damgae control to the water if it has become polluted. Water change and fresh carbon would be my suggestion.
As far as the crabs are concerned I have heard/read that the Haitian Reef Anemone (Condylactis sp.) has a natural enemy in the red leg hermit crabs, I do not know how true this is as I have rarely seen mention of it.
Having a wound in the foot or other major part of the anemone is normally a death sentence, and they should be pulled out and placed in QT or bucket to prevent them from polluting the tank with toxins.
When they go, they go fast. Its also hard to blame any clean up crew if they want to take advantage of a dieing meal or at least investigate it to see if it is worthy of snacking on.

hmmm....my lighting is a compact florescent blue and white bulb. Everyone else in the tank seems fine so im not sure what is going to happen but i will keep an eye on anything and everything.
