((sigh)) coati's are wild animals they are not domestic, most people will have these animals while they are young and then when they get too aggressive as an adult they will spend the rest of their lives shut up in cages or they will get sent to a rescue. lets leave wild animals where they belong, in a good zoo with large habitat's or in the wild. declawing and pulling the teeth are a feeble attempt at making these animals "house friendly" I also do not believe that you have to declaw a housecat, if you have to "alter" an animal (other than spaying or neutering) then maybe you should reconsider keeping that animal as a housepet.
Believe me I know what I am talking about, I was a zookeeper for 5yrs and I know what a full grown coati is cabable of. They need a habitat not a cage.
If you said you have a large outdoor habitat and are trying to keep the animal as close to its natural habitat as possible then I would say that is great! but when you try to make a wild animal a housepet then I just shake my head.

come on now,
more than 50% of cats are declawed, and the only reasons are not only because of furniture, thats just an example. i would like to see proof that declawing a cat is unhealthy( i dont see validity there).

declawing a cat is the same is taking off the tips of your fingers, starting at the first knuckle.
by declawing a cat, you are preventing them from stretching out the muscles in their paws.

i agree

nature gave them those tools for a reason... for living in the wild.

im not evan going to get into this argument with you two clowns tryin to come down on me. Why dont you two go let all your fish out of your tank back into the sea??? if youre going to say that all wild animals should be left in their natural habitats why dont we start right here on this forum with people keeping fish??? THEY BELONG IN THE OCEAN, so does every animal in a zoo( Mr. ZOOKEEPER FOR 5 YEARS)(so does every reptile in the pet store) you can say that they have huge" natural" "habitats" that closely ressemble the wild, well soo do my crocs and my lizard and coati etc. But nothing is as good as the wild for every animal( we all know this)..animals in the zoo only have that certain space to roam the rest of their lives, there not free to roam the country!! So why dont you go to local zoos with some picket signs and free all the animals tough guys!! I can see if i had these animals in small cages but my garage that i keep all my animals in is probably the size of your house if not bigger!
I mean its like the pot callin the kettle black!! Why dont you practice what you preach sometime then MAYBE ill listen to you, other than that stop hijackin my thread with nonsense.
P.S my coati is full grown now and if you have the time to work with them there nothing like wild coatis!! just like people have large cats(i.e bengals, bobcats etc.) they play with them and pet them etc. Why?? because they worked with them!! you can nevere take the wild out of an animal but it sure can be controlled!!!!
P.S.S it also sounds like you guys are questioning what i know about my animals. I GAURANTEE i know more about the animals i have in captivity then you will ever dream to know of! my internship was in australia working with crocs for 3 1/2 months with one of the most world-renound zoologist's, if thats not enough ill give you all the credentials and published work ive done with my teachers in college, just let me know!!!
As for what my crocs eat i feed them mice, rats, chicken, turtles, snakes and i always have fish(not goldfish, minnows) swimming in their ponds for anytime they want a snack

my cat is not declawed, and does not tear up my furniture.
if it came down to the cat or the couch, the cat wins. declawing a cat is not only cruel, but unhealthy for the cat.

i tend to agree. my siamese can wander anywhere he wants outside w/o me worrying about him. he doesn't scratch anything, not even a scratching post. when he wants to scratch he scratches at the glass door and scratches the deckpost. some of my old friends have declawed all their cats and they have to walk them around outside because they can't defend themselves or get up trees. my sia won't hesitate to attack dogs or anything that gets near it besides me. and it can almost climb all the way up our brick house to the roof by claws. trees, no prob. cats need claws, they just need to be trained on use of them at a very early age, and not by another cat.
whoops, sorry for the hijack, and yeah i'd declaw and all with a coati too. just saying the house cat thing.... aww y'know.

i only paid $750 for him, and hes declawed, and had his K-9's removed, so i actually got an amazing deal on him!!

Thats alot of money for a animal that has such a short life span (7 years).

kinkfish, heres some more pics of my pups. Oh an dubbin, i agree its alot but all "exotics" are alot period. basically i feel you pay for what you get. Ive gone the cheap way with things before and ill never do it again. i also paid 350 for both my crocs, 2500 to get my neopolitan mastiff shipped to me from italy, and 1500 for my bulldog shipped from texas, and many other outrageous prices for my other animals. Im not saying you have to pay alot for a good pet , i think dogs from the SPCA are just as great as a pet, but both my dogs are fullbread, the best of the best, show dogs, so once again if thats what ya want you are going to have to pay for it. Also my NEO and Bulldog's lifespan is only 10 years too, although sad what are ya gunna do?? BTW kinkifish i dont know if i mentioned this earlier but my bulldog is now 2 years old he weighs 155 pounds and my NEO is only 9 months old in these pics from today and he already weighs 185, and hes still pretty skinny!! his both parents were well over 230(i have pics if you wanna see them)
