My tank is 29 gallons and has been running since last summer. I have 130watt PC lighting.
Luckily, I've had very few problems with my tank. My coralline algae grows like crazy! I have to keep scraping it from the front of the tank, or else I wouldn't be able to see in.
I test the calcium and alkilinity levels, and since they are both always above normal, I've never dosed anything in the tank. I do a water change about once a month (sometimes less), and the calcium levels still stay the same.
I've also got crushed coral (half crushed coral, half argonite sand), which personally, I like. It hasn't turned out to be a problem for me at all, and I like having all the small shells and things laying on the bottom. I believe with the half sand it works like a sandbed, because whenever I move some of the substrate, I have pods, brittle stars, and all sorts of things scurrying around.
