My refugium process

Well, I bought aragonite from the LFS and added it the refugium portion of the tank. I also bought some LR and threw in a heater and a powerhead. This is a small area which is about 8 inches by 12 inches and I am wondering if this has to cycle or not. I took a Nitrate reading from it today and it was at 10!
Should I be doing anything else? The LR I bought from the store seemed pretty well cured and has been there for some time he said. It had no odor, so what do you guys think?

Sounds like your not really going through a cycle, your nitrate is just a little high. Check your ammonia and nitrite as well. If those are both at zero do a small water change and it should be perfect!

holy crow, a reply. Thank you. I will have to bring a sample to the LFS for Ammonia and ites. I only have a test for PH, ates, calcium, phos, kh. Don't think I should be doing anything else huh? I used some Dt water and fresh salt water.

I think you will be fine. Its to be expected for one of the three to spike a little bit since you are adding something new like that. Nothing to worry about IMO. Good luck!
