Ok, been testing the water
Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-20
Calcium-380
I did 2 water changes this week and seem like I am getting a foothold on this cyano junk.
But when I went to take out a piece of coral (dead coral sold @ lfs as LR-Was cured and everything) because it had some cyano stuck to it. I shook it off in the water and went to put it back when I noticed an AWFUL smell! It was that rock! OMG it stunk SOOOOO bad! I have no idea why it smelled so foul. My water has kind of a funky fragrance to it as well.
Is this normal? Things are looking up a bit, no deaths as I can see and even the candycane trumpet coral looks like it might make it too.

Like a low tide smell?
If everything else in your tank is okay, you're probably fine.
My rocks always have a little bit of a scent to them, not like something inside them is dead though.

Yeah its a "fishy" smell. Kind of "sulfury" too. Not overpowering, I mean you cant smell the tank just sitting by it but if you put your nose to the rock, WHEW!!!! (Smells like Teen Spirit!
)

LOL
I think you're okay. I also think you're afraid to do anything wrong to your tank again

A little bit of a smell is normal. If you have ever been to the ocean, you know that it has a smell.
Just keep an eye on your water quality over the next few days.
You use Prime, right? I think I remember reading this.

YEAH you got that right! OH my poor little darlings suffered so much from my inexperienced ignorance! I am learning though and we all have to start somewhere. I just wish I would have listened to advice given from the start!

Nooooo..... I dont know what that is.?.?.?. Is it anything like BioSpira? Thats what I used when my tank was cycling. It sure worked great, but I agree, with that comes time and patience too!

Oh, okay. I don't know why I thought you did. Anyways, prime stinks, that's why I added that.
I really think you'll be okay. Just keep an eye on your parameters.

Run some carbon or we you already using it change it out for some fresh carbon. as long as the smell isn't over powering the carbon should take care of it.

+1
I highly recommend Chemi Pure Elite carbon media.

Just because your tank is reading 0 Ammo and 0 itrites doesn't mean the rock is cured, it simply means that there are enough nitrites to break down the ammo at the speed of decomp. And enough nitrates to break down the nitrites. Your rock can still be curing. So many people assume as soon as the ammo is 0 and itrites are 0 that everything is in line. Truth it it can take months for your tank to get to the point where its completely healthy.

The LR I have in there is cured. I got it from the lfs and I went back and asked them directly if it was cured or not and they said yes, it is cured.

well I know what you are trying to say but that is EXACTLY what cured means (enough biological filtration has formed to process ammonia produced by ITSELF). If we all waited for die off to cease it could be six month to a year before we added anything. you are describing the difference between cured vs mature not cured vs uncured. that said even lightly matured rock doesn't stink so it may sustain zero ammonia water and even additional life but it sounds like its a ways from careless dumping in livestock without the possibility of a set backs.
