My Sad Little Tank

Haha, its kinda ugly, but I like it. Yes, I know:
1. there are plastic plants but I like having color and Ronald Weasley likes to hide in one of them!
2. there is no background, and you can see all my equipment, but when Im on the back porch, I can open the window and see the other side of the tank
3. my equipment, period. (the internal was in there while my powerhead was broken)
4. Sailfin tangs do not belong in a 29 gallon. Im fish sitting for a month. He completed my Harry Potter theme and is now Professor Dumbledor.
Heres some pics

Don't apologize for your aquarium. If it looks the way you like it, then its great! I don't know if your feather duster will survive the visiting sailfin tang or not. I'd get rid of your murderous crab (or put him in your refugium if you have one).
But I like your tank too!

Im Tang-sitting for a month more, its already been 2 weeks (my boss is moving). The tang hasnt been nipping the feather duster. He was the only one in his tank, so although mine is much smaller, I think he likes hanging out with the pj cardinals!
As for the harry potter theme, I just named everything in HP style:
tang - professor dumbledor
lawnmower blenny - harry potter (rip)
2 firefish - neville longbottom and luna lovegood
2 pj cardinals - ronald weasley and hermione granger (rip ron)
cleaner shrimp - doby (rip)
killer hermit (snape)
2 peppermints - dean thomas and shamus finnigan
conch - gronk the gremlin
as soon as I can catch snape, he is outta there! I think he knows im after him....

Nice. You have a lot of sponge on what looks to be one rock. All that white fungus looking stuff!
Was this rock just added recently? I only ask because normally sponge grows in dark areas, not right out in the light like that.

I think it's a cute tank, as long as we love them, that's what matters!!
Watch your water line, looking a little low which means the salinity is inevitably on the rise

I know! I think its weird too, but it was the first rock I ever had in this tank (since June). The big blob that looks like fungus is actually a sponge, there are all of those porous intake tubes. One of the first sponges that grew on the underside of the rock actually slowy moved to the top of the rock for more light. Haha, not sure whats going on, but it looks pretty cool!

Thanks, but thats actually where I keep the water line. The person who had the tank before me cut off the back part of the hood (right where the light ends). I keep it low in case the firefish gets the zoomies!
And everyone else, thanks for the compliments. Its a work in progress, thats for sure. I FINALLY caught Snape today and took him to the LFS, turns out he was a tuxedo hermit. They were going to feed him to the big lion but I asked them to wait until I left, lol. I came home with 6 real blue-legs and 6 snails. gotta replenish the cuc!

Hey Hottie. I like your tank. It is different. I get tired of seeing the same old reef tanks all the time.
However, I think you sent an innocent victim to the death squad. I don't think your hermit killed those critters. They probably died and he was cleaning up the carcass. I have kept all kinds of hermits including a big ole 6"(That just disappeared
and think the sfe had something to do with it but can't prove it)and have yet to see one catch a fish. I can see just from looking that you don't have nearly enough algae for a lawnmower and firefish die from heart attacks. What kind of light do you have and are you going to add more corals or fish?

Hey, thanks! I woke up one day and the firefish was still swimming around with half of his body gone (the entire colored part). He eventually died the next day. But I dont think the hermit was cleaning up a live fish, he was eating it! At this point I had 2 large hermits, until snape avada kedavrad the other one. Ive ruled out a mantis or pistol shrimp, I dont hear any noises and have had the same rock for a while, and half of it is base rock. As for lights, I just have the coralife 50/50 20 watt bulb, but am getting new lights for xmas. I might add another fish or two once the tang is back to his home, but I def plan on adding corals and clams.

Maybe that is a pretty crafty hermit then. My big one would sit on a rock with his claws up and try to pinch the fish as they swam by but to no avail. Then again he could have been defending himself from my brutal and unmerciful lunar. Anyways I think a dwarf angel or a fairy wrasse would look nice in your tank and maybe a small goby.
