Oh, the salt level is 0.025-0.026
Next time you are at the lfs, ask to see them test the tank where the shrimp came from. Probably going to be around .02 or lower

yes... almost everyone in the hobby, every website that sells online, and every LFS i deal with agrees that acclimation is neccessary, but you don't agree...that's not odds i'll take.
the shrimp wasn't necessarily going to die. anything dead in less than 24 hrs usually points towards acclimation shock.
I am sorry..every fish store I know of in my area just floats the bags then puts them in..sure they have some die off but your never going to get perfect shipments. I will never buy into the acclimation crap of dripping for hours. Seems he lost his shrimp doing that stupid thing..Yet I never seem to have any problems with my way of doing it..HMMMMM
OHH and the thing of doing it when ordering form online I think is a BIGGER bunch of crap. that animal was in that water for 24-30hrs and that water is BUNK its probably soo out of whack. then you are going to torture the little guy by letting it sit in that water for who knows how long while you drip water in it. Yea sounds STUPID to me.

Those glass floating hydrometers.
Refractometers are much more accurate, but work with what you have. You can also carry your water in to the lfs and "watch" them test it with their refractometer to see if it's matiching up with yours. Regarding O5's comments, I would totally disregard. He has obviously been lucky, or an exception to the rule. You can test the waters, or buck the system, choice is yours.

What does buck the system mean?

Meaning, don't acclimate properly or do your research, and wing it like 05. There will always be people on here like 05 that give you the easy answer and provide evidence of their success, but it don't work for the rest/majority of us. I was only giving you "my" experience with this issue, but as far as acclimation goes, I think I'm in the majority here

No..How many threads do you ready about..I dripped my animal for this long and it died..WHY...never read any about floating it for 10min and putting it in and died.
So why is that? I think this Drip stuff is utter BS

Drip acclimation is not BS........ Take a water sample of the water in the bag, and check all the prams sometime. Acclimation is not just matching temperatures . Daaaa!!! What about the PH, Salt level Alkalinity, Nitrates, and others prams are way out of line from that critter being in that bag for who knows how long sometimes.
So LFS's don't drip, they do not care. They just buy some more, or hope it lives long enough for you to buy it.. When I get something new I check all the variables I can to make the acclimation as easy to the critter (especially shrimp) as it can. It is simply a mater of caring about doing things right, and not killing what you just spent your money on............. Warren

I think drip acclimation is best, but like all things it should be done properly. At least it has worked for me so far. ymmv
