my Skimmer wont dump Junk !!!

i have a aqua medic skimmer for a 500Liter tank . but when i start it wit wont give any junk ... even when i turn the handle to a degree and the bubbles come up its still water and no ugly goo . what can be wrong ?

Is it brand new?? If so it usually takes a week or 2 for it to really start skimming properly.
