bit my thumb yesterday and tried to yank it down

it hurt.

anyone else ever been bitten by a moray with razor teeth? my chainlink has bitten me many times because he wraps on my hand when im cleanin the tank and he will sometimes bite the side of my hand but it doesn't hurt, just feels like a little clamp. But my spotted seems to be getting a little more aggresive and at feeding time will come right up to the surface and stick his head out and wait for food. I hope my fimby doesn't grow up to be like him

share your moray biting stories if you have any

Yeah, when I had my jewelled moray it bit me. It was when my hand was in the tank during feeding. The eel wasn't able to bite down hard as I was able to pull my hand out before it actually sank its teeth in... just basically grazed my finger. But it bled like crazy. Those teeth really are like razors... I barely felt it but it just sliced through the flesh.

yeah he gave me a few nice slices and it didn't feel good, I was closing the lid of his tank and he came right up stuck his head out of the water, and tried to pull my hand back in the tank. and the teeth are long too, they go straight into you then slice you when they come out.

That's what my mom said when I told her I wanted to get morays, then I got them and she thought they were the coolest thing.

I have a zebra moray and he's tame. Never tried to bite me, never goes after my hand. It does bite the feeding stick sometimes when it gets over excited about the food.

Does an eel carry bateria in its mouth like some land animals? I got bit by my snake numerous times and my caimen. When my caimen bit me I had to go to the doctors and get some meds. The worst ever was Nile Monitor and my water monitor bite. For one I had to use a screw driver as a pry bar to get them to release. I tried everything short of killing them. It stayed latched on for 30 minutes. They both opened me up pretty good. But I got sick as hell and had major issues with my hand after they bit me. Major swelling and puss oozing out like a jelly filled doughnut.
They took about a month each to finally go down from the swelling. Took two months to heal 70% and 4 months all the way.
Do eels carry that type of bite? I can imagine a 4 foot tessie can.

good question CK, but I hope not. lol my spotted is almost at 2 feet and his teeth are huge. I'm gonna have to get bigger feeding prongs when he gets bigger, I have a feeling he is gonna be a terror

The intial bite hurts but its when they are latched on and start pumping their jaws to bite down harder that kills. My nile was 3.5 feet long with the tail. My water monitor was 5 feet with the tail. Their heads were about 4 and 6 inches long.
My SFE never bit me and my Fimby hasnt had a chance yet.
I doubt a small slice can make you get an infection. Hopefully you never get a full blown bite and hold. May have some issues. Try vinegar if it ever happens. I learned that after bite 3 from my snake.

I feel your pain Crypt. My dusky pygmy rattler bite me once and I had problems for for a couple weeks!! They may be small but damn did she mess my hand up!! My Mangrove snake wasnt so bad-lost all felling in my hand for a while. Luckily my 3.5' (tail included) savhanna monitor never got a hold of me-he was built like a pitbull. He got mad and bit leg on my ottoman once and I had to put the whole thing in his cage until he got bored and let go.
