OK - I had the same problem and I knew exactly what I did when it happened - first he's fine and is doing great.
When you add fresh water to your tank make sure your star fish is no where near you - small salinity changes effect the health of star fish severly and if he's right near where you add your fresh water - Major stress (that was my mistake)

cool, it finally stopped leaking and it doing great. do you have one? someone told me it was hard to keep and a pickey eater? what do u feed yours?

well when i had a star fish, i usually fed him the bottom of the tank, meaning they eat what ever is there.;)

I don't feed them at all - they eat on their own.
I have an orange star and a red star that cruise around the tank eating algae off the substrate and glass.
I have two green serpent stars that eat right out of my hand.
I have one tiger striped serpent star that hides most of the time and I have one brown brittle star that I never see.
Sixe in one tank - it's fun
remember your tank must be at least 6-10 months old for the orange/red stars - but serpent's will eat what you feed your fish.
the other cool thing about serpents - if one of your fish dies - they'll eat it before your ammonia spikes!!
:)
