Hey guys ! I just went to feed my fish today, and as I opened the lid to feed them, I smelt a funky smell. Like dead fish or maybe dead rock or snails-? I was wondering if anyone ever had this problem before-? I have no dead fish, or any snail in my tank. And I do water changes every two weeks. Any help would be great, thanks !

if you have a lid on your tank... maybe the air inside is... stagnating? im not sure if that is the right word for what i am trying to describe, but like, no fresh air in there, it might just be going sour. try leaving the lid open for a day or two and see if the smell goes away.
may want to check your parameters anyway though, particularly ammonia.

Oh yeah, sounds like a good idea. Because the entire top of my tank is covered. So there is really no air escaping, other than through the durso pipe air hole

The lid should not be tight. You should have ventilation in the tank. If oxygen is not touching the surface then you will have oxygen problems throughout the tank.

If your canopy is wood, it wouldn't be too hard to add a couple of little fans to the canopy. That would help with air circulation.

another thing could be the circulation of the water and how much filtration you have in the tank. also what type of media you are using in your filter.

For filtration I have a LIFETECH in the refugium. I'm not too crazy about it, because it takes up most of the space in it. I am looking for something better but smaller in size. And I have a Tunze 6060 on one side of the tank. I am getting another one for the other side soon.
