My tank questions

Well I got some questions I wouldn't mind answered.
1. What is a good light timer? I'm going to be gone for a week and a half so I need a good lighting timer.
2. What is a good automatic feeder? I had a small one but it didn't disperse too much food and it fell in the tank so that was a big mess.
3. I got some weird red algae growing at the top of my two new rocks and I'm going to test the water this weekend. What is it and what caused it? It is growing out and not like coraline on the rocks. It is thick and slimmy.

1. Intermatic
2. I think you would do best to have someone come in every few days and look after your tank, top it off, make sure everything is still working properly, etc. Check at your LFS, they may have someone willing to do it for a nominal fee. They do not make a good auto feeder IMO, and this means all your fish get is flake or pellet?
3. Cyanobacteria~ Some possible causes: over feeding, too many nutrients, using tapwater, not enough flow, inadequate clean up crew, overstocking, lights that have gone out of spectrum, high PO4, innefficient protein skimmer.

What about top off also. I couldn't leave my tank that long or the salinty would swing to high with no top offs for that long.

Ya I don't know, I guess I will look into seeing if a person from a lfs could come over. I do feed my fish other things besides pellet and flake like seaweed clips and live algae.
I don't know if my dad has been leaving the lights on to long or feed to much since I've been at my moms for the past week. I will do a large water change and try to get that off the rock. I'm going to test it and see the water parimeters today also.
My dad and I were also interested in an automatic feeder because my dad works for a doctor who has a 75g setting around and we were considering reseting it up in the office with timers for the lights and a automatic feeder so I wouldn't have to come in every day. But that isn't looking too brightly.
Thanks for the info.

I got a timer called Power center. It is just for fish tanks and its all kinds of timer plugs for different things that you need for a saltwater tank. We are very happy with it and well worth the money. I can tell you were we got it from since im from OKC as well.

We got it from the reef shop. Behind white water they are listed in the phone book its kinda crazy on how you have to get to them but well worth the find. She has alot of knowledge and isn't going to sale you something you dont need.
