Well I am STARTING my 38 gallon, and this is to where it is today. Today I bought a sand sifting star, a horseshoe crab, and a percula clown. There is already 2 damsels in there now, and an anenome that you can't really see right now. Only 10lbs of live rock, waiting to get more after next saturday (my birthday). But let me know what oyu guys think, and/or improvements besides more rock

If you're starting out, why an anenome ? And why two damsel's with a clown ? If i'm not mistaken, the damsel's will harress the clown.
hope your tank has cycled. And if it has, like said above get cured rock. :)
What sort oflighting are you using ???
Good luck !!

The light is a 144watt Helios light. I am almost certain that the cycling has finished. Is there something wrong with having an anenome when starting out? Not like I sat it up the other day, it has been a little over a month now. I am not sure if the damsels pick on the clown, I wasn't told so...but you know, you arnt ever told the entire story.
About the rock, I am really into the Tonga rock, which I have now, is there something wrong with this?

Do a search for sebea anemone and you might thinik differently about getting one. They are difficult to keep. Anemones require pristine water conditions, feeding and strong lighting.

Nothing wrong with Tonga rock :) By cured rock we mean rock that has the die off come out. If it is not "cured" rock, then your tank will go through another cycle.
If i'm not mistaken, an anenome require's stable/established tank with good lighthing. Since your tank 's rock's are not many, u can't build a "mountain" on which the anenome can climb to incase it feel's the light is not enough.

No anenomes ever it won't servive. They are only for the best of keepers and then that is iffy. I did the same thing as you, the clown won't host it and the anenome is to shocked to live. Believe me I got reemed 2 years ago and they were right, it died it polluted my tank and I was very upset. Take it back to your LFS who shouldn't have sold it to you to begin with. Are you sure your tank is totally cycled?

There's not enough for the star and the horseshoe to eat. Both take awhile to starve, and they surely will unless you plan to add critters to the sand. Of course the tank is too young for anemones. For the first six months the tank goes through alot of changing........what is this algae? Why won't my alk stay? Why does my pH keep dropping? Lots of things folks ask about when tanks are new. IMO anything under six months is really not a stable mature tank yet. As tempting as it is, I advise you to hold off buying anymore livestock for awhile. Also, unless you have a seperate curing tank for the future rock, I would add it VERY slowly, and try to get rock that is as cured as possible.......this means the rock should have been curing at the store for a good period of time.

My tank is about 10 months old and I have a condy anenome and I have had it proably a month now and it has tripled in size and I am fairly new to reef keeping, IMO it depends on which anenomes you go with, and what dindi said most clowns don't accept the aneneome you buy them, its easier to buy a clown an anenome together. Just my 2 cents!

if your tank has cycled, I would return the star, horseshoe crab, and the anemone, your tank isn't ready to support these yet. the damsels and the clown are in the same family, the damsels usually get very aggressive and most people end up having to tear the tank apart to remove them. I would remove them now and return them to lfs. It is likely they will harass the clown. you could use the credit toward more rock or maybe another clown.

Do you have any test kits?

Go to the store only after research and planning, not with stars in your eyes and a fat wallet.

You should rotate 2 of your bulbs. That way your tank does not look blue on one side and yellow on the other. But it looks nice.
