My USVI vacation

I bought an Olympus stylus 720 for the trip. It worked well for taking shots while snorkeling. I had to re-size them so they don’t look as good as they would have. The first one I’m not sure what it is some one told me it was a Cuttlefish... I thought it was just a squid. Then the octopus, a nurse shark I found I tried to chase him to get a better shot but he was fast and a cool friggen huge puffer. Oh and the Virgin Islands are awesome!!!! More to come...

Great pics, and I am sure 80 degree water. I am going to Destin, FL in two weeks to do some Scuba Diving. I am sure the water will not be as warm as it was there

the spotted ray was really cool, he was a good bit deeper than 10 feet but then most of this was. (thats what the camra is good to)

Love the shark picture! :scared: That looks like about four feet of water, cool that the sharks come that close.
Wait is that a tank you are in?

Any hot tips on travel to St Thomas? I am scheduling a company PAID vacation there in July. Never Snorkled before but want to try. How expensive is food at restaurants around the island?
Thanks

yeah... st Thomas is the bigger islands of the two. there is an airport ( not that big tho) that has one runway if i remember correctly. it is the industrialized island of the two where u will find all your shopping outdoor markets and such. also on st Thomas... there is a port where all the Cruz ships come.
St. John is the smaller of the two and that is where u will find all of your amazing snorkeling. its not as near as populated as St. Thomas. ( i went around 5 to 6 years ago so it might have changed a little) there are 2 hotels on st johns... the westin and some other hotel that i dont know much about. the hotel is ok, but its not a big deal b.c you will be out and about most the time. were going again this summer and i cant wait.
the spots to go to for snorkeling
trunk bay- this is a very famous snorkeling spot. if you look it up on the internet you will get many hits. it was once ranked the number 1 beach in the world by national geographics. nice clear blue waters and the life in the reef is amazing. there is a island that u can snorkel around. i saw eels, nurse sharks, parrot fish ( lots of them), and so forth ( i have always had a love for nature back then but i wasnt into the whole Reef fish back then so i didnt know about the different species of fish)
this is a great beach to go to BUT... IN SOME PARTS OF THE YEAR IT CAN GET VERY CROWDED B.C THIS IS THE MOST FAMOUS BEACH AND ALL THE PEOPLE FROM THE CRUZ SHIPS GO THERE. the reason they go to this beach is b.c they only have so and so amount of hours on the island so most choose to visit trunk bay.
Lemon Kay or bay- best beach on the island. amazing snorkeling. the life is out of this world. there were also about 3 other people on the beach when we went there. the starfish were huge!!! at least 4 feet wide. this is just a beach you will have to go to.
there is one other beach that i dont know of the name of but it is a must see. this beach was very different b.c the taxi driver would drop u off and say... go hike for 2 miles and ull run into the beach. this beach was better than trunk bay, and right up there with lemon kay. remote beach in the middle of nowhere. it was just the coolest thing ever.
hope some of this info helped. if you have any more questions feel free to email me at ericgmanning@gmail.com

I think the beach that you’re thinking of where you had to hike it water lemon. It’s about a mile and a half walk in and I split the hell out of my toe on a rock. I was looking at the awesome sail boats and whamo I can put a pic if you want to see it its bad.
First off we stayed in a condo in crystal cove on St Thomas I think that the Snorkeling there was almost the best that’s where most of the pics are from. Then we went to Cinnamon Bay and Camped (if you can call it that in there condo's). The snorkeling there wasn't that grate still good though. Trunk has been beaten down by all the tourist there’s a lot of people that go there from the cruse ships. Water lemon was really good too I only snorkeled for and hour of so cause I Busted my toe.
St Thomas is the tourist island but if you go to red hook and stay around there it’s nice. St John is the "retirement" one its quiet except for the cruse ship mobs. And St Crox is the party one kind of like Las Vegas. When I go back I think I will charter a sail boat to stay on for two weeks instead and just stay in all the different bays.
I would say for your company trip go to sapphire Bay and stay there its near red hook and you can still go to town and get drunk but the beach is still really good.
For the cheap trip I would fly to ft Lauderdale some times they have island round trips for like $30. And stay in the national park in there tents for like 50 a night or bring your own for 25. For the extremely cheap you can go in sep-oct during hurricane season. I hear there is plenty of warning for you to get off the island if one's going to hit. But it’s really cheap. You can also go in the summer and every thing is cheaper then too.
The food wasn't really that expensive I thought it was going to be a lot more. It’s the cab rides that bleed you of all your cash. Like $7 per person to go a mile. One good trick on St Thomas is the cabs that haul the locals around make a loop and you can ride them for $1 per person. Or you can rent a scooter I wish I would have done that. They drive crazy there and on the wrong side of the road.
We did the scuba resort trip for $75 per person it was awesome I would suggest doing it. If you go to the dive shop right in Cruze bay on St John you can do a 2 tank intro dive for the price of most 1 tank resort dives. We will be getting certified next time. You can do the class and pool time 1 year before and just do the 4 dives when you get there then your not doing tests on your vacation.
