My Yellow Tang is mean

Is it common for a Yellow tang to destroy a Hawaiian Feather Duster? Mine picked at it till it split the tube into several pieces. That sucks because my wife loved the feather duster. Any suggestions on how to keep the tang from doing this - without removing him from my tank?
Thanks in advance.

when i had a yellow tang he didnt bother my feather duster, but they are mean tangs, if i was you i would sell him or take him back to the lfs mine was nice then when it got used to the tank he killed everything

They can be territorial, but it might have seen the duster as a plant or sumthing. Its a possibility. Did u feed the tang and veggies, greens? Cuz it may have needed veggies so bad that it went after the duster, just cuz it looked like a plant/ Was it brownish? Well, if u dont already, start feeding yer tang seaweed on a clip.

I have been feeding him flake, brine, and the sponge stuff. Don't have the name right noe nut will get it. He was also eating all of the green algea that coverd half of my sand. Can I get the seaweed at the LFS? m Thanks for the help.

That sucks because it was my brother-in-law who got the fish for the tank. It is is "part' of the tank. I do think that the fish is very pretty, but I am not willing to have it kill all of my inverts. I guess I have to 86 him.

put a yellow veggie clip in the tank, the yellow tang will think its another yellow tang and fight with it once in a while a person know is doing that and it is leaving his fish alone

Or he can put some seaweed on it. U can buy seaweed at the lfs OR at a sushi place/market. Get this stuff called Nori, PLAIN dired seaweed, not toasted or flavored. It is cheap and will last a while. Im thinking it only picked the duster cuz it wanted veggies and thought the duster was... mine doesnt pick at MY dusters, so im thinking give it some food, and yer good.

That is great info!!! AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WILL FLUSH A FISH. That would not be very nice.:D
What is the clip that everyone is talking about?? Is that something that I need ot get at the LFS?
By the way here are some pics of my tank. See what you think. It is still in the beginning and I plan on getting much more LR. Most of what I have is just base and not LR. Only the middle ones are LR.

mine doent even look at my feather duster. but at soon as i put some sea weed in the clip he start eating from it.
as far as your tank. i think you mite need like some more LR. and it will be better if you rid out of that CC and get some LS, since you dont have enough filtration sytem as i can see.
and another question. is that an anemone what i saw in your tank. what kind? and what kind of ligthing you have?

The anemonie is a condylactis. At his time I only have a 40Watt 50/50 Coralife. I hame getting the Coralife 36" PC in a few days. For the filtration I have Marineland Emperor Filter 280 and Marineland Emperor Filter 400. There is also the Powerhead. That is a total of 680 GPH that is turning over in the 58 Gal tank. I am also about to get a skimmer (probably the Red Sea - The Prizm Skimmer. At that time I will be able to put much more LR in the tank. Where did you get the clip?
Thanks

You can buy the clip at the fish store. Its easy to find. They also come in nemo style as well:D If money isnt a problem, then u can just get the dried seaweed that they have there. It does look like yer tang needs veggies though, big time. nice looking tank though, yes a lil but more live rock would be good, GREAT even, and maybe a queen conch to clean up yer sand. You can also get live rock without a protein skimmer anyway, but yea, the prizm would do nicely for you. Just keep watching it for the first few days to make sure the cup doesnt overflow. Right, adios!

i would get rid of the condy, that much PC isn't enough to keep them alive for long.. some, and it's rare, that people will keep an anemone , but i would recomend either a lot of VHO or MH

My condy seems very happy. He is eating well and growing. He also moves all over the tank. I have had him for several months and all seems fine. Is the lighting the only reason that you say to get rid of the condy, or are there some other problems that I should know about. :notsure:
Thanks for the info

Tangs can be very mean, if i were you i would have him removed... (my personal dislike for tangs in a community aquarium)

That suck because they are very pretty fish. It will be hard to get my brother-in-law to agree to remove him. He is the one that bought the tang for the tank.
