i could have goten away with 250's with no problem, but with that said i feel that the growth in our tank is nothing sort of stellar.
I run a 1/3HP aqua Logic chiller. they are a bit pricey at around 1000.00 bucks but IMO they are one of the best chillers available.
with out my chiller on a hot day (i'm in FL) the tank would go up to around 89 on come days. I did not want to shorten my light cycle so I went with the chiller.
Yes we have a few fish. i feel that in a reef tank the fish load should be kept very light.
Thanks Ocean,
Good information.
I am looking to get a 694 watt system(550 of it metal halides)
Look forward to seeing mor pictures.

I have some zoos that I bought that should have more color. They are out and look happy, but I am wondering if I don't have enough light. I have a 144 oceanic bowfront with 75 watts of compact lighting - actinic and 120 watts of reg flourescent. Help. Now that you have teased us, I want mine to look better.

Is there anyway you could put names on any of them? I have been looking for some new zoas and a couple you have, I have seen before but I can't remember their name. For example, is the first one an eagle or cat's eye? Or I could point out the ones I like to see if you can name them. Thanks.

OK, Oceana, you obviously have a great deal of skill with this-absolutely incredible tank.
I need help with one little old zoo colony and perhaps you can give me some advice.
I purchased a large Isaurus Tuberculatus-Snake Polyp last Thursday.
It just doesnt seem happy anywhere in my tank. I only have power compacts 260W of light combo actinic/daylight, but I have tons of colonial polyps, kelp, shrooms etc growing quite happily so thought this med light, med current zoo would be ok in my tank. I placed it midway up the rocks, in a pretty good water flow. The green star polyps on the rock are looking really happy, but the snakes are droopin. They bend over almost as if they are melting!! they perk up a little at night-I actually turned off my lunars to see if they need a period ot total darkness. I am not getting any opening of the polyps.
I read somewhere that they need to be fed individually, but how do I feed a critter that only opens in the dark of the night? Do you think it needs more light or less light?
Would appreciat your advice
Thank-you

for zoanthids not only is it not necessary it can be a problem IMO. The rocks have room to tumble about in and out of water. smash against the sides of the bag causing leaks. All kinds of reason. Thanks for the info on paper towels. Thats the reason why I tried it. It may be easy but IMO its taking an un-needed risk when I know water and a bag works every time.
