This is still fish-related, but didn't seem to go with any of the above categories. I just wanted to see who all names their fish and what they name them and why? Or why not?

I'll start :)

Name: Tremors
Fish type: maroon clown
Reason: When he was in the fish bag, he realized he couldn't move anywhere so he just floated in place and it looked like he was shaking (really horrible) like my grandmother with Parkinson's so I called him Tremors. He's fine in the tank, swimming beautifully.

Name: Omen
Fish type: ocellaris clown
Reason: Nemo backwards because I like to pretend I'm original lol

Name: Pinky
Fish type: striped cardinalfish
Reason: He's the biggest in the tank, but seemed to be the slowest for a while. I mean mentally. He was staring at his reflection for a good 30 minutes the day I put him in (so what does that say about me staring at him for 30 mins? ><) and I just instantly thought Pinky! Which some of you will understand where from with the next little guy... :)

Name: The Brain
Fish type: purple pseudochromis
Reason: He just seemed like the smartest one out of all of the fish. Plus, he likes to pick on Pinky ;)

My snails are all named after Spongebob characters because I had to name one Gary. If I ever get a BTA I'll probably call it Little Foot after my third favorite character from the "Land Before Time" series.

LOL

We named the fish we had in our 14G years ago, and the cleaner shrimp all after famous clowns. It started because we had two clownfish and a clown goby in there, and then the cleaner shrimp just got sucked into the whole clown theme on accident. I don't even remember what they're names were anymore, I think the female clown as Clarabelle and the male was Bobo (because he was an idiot!) Can't remember the rest.

Now the only fish that seem to have names in our tank are my Sailfin Tang, and it's not a pleasant name that we call her, LOL. She's usually being cursed at for ripping food out of the corals.

I have not named my fish, but the grandkids did name a few, There is the "Dori fish" not Dori but THE Dori fish.

A Zippy fish is what they call all of my lawnmower blennies over the years. The one before this fish was eaten by my anemone, the original was given away when I got divorced and this last one...all are zippy fish, the kids say because they look like zippers (solid fins), LOL..I thought it was because he was fast.

I do call my Fridmans Dottyback my "Little purple" I noticed myself saying that as I looked for him to make sure he is alive and well when I do fish counts at feeding time, he likes the caves so I have to search sometimes.

My Mother calls my clowns the nemo type fish.

The Lemonpeel Angelfish, the Kole tang, nor the sand sifting goby rank a name, they are loved nonetheless.
P.S.
I know it may seem crazy but I don't really consider any of my fish as a "pet" I just don't see my fish like that..I see the whole tank, if the fish or coral are sick I say the tank is in trouble..if all is well I say the tank is doing great.

Lol it's okay I don't either. I was tossing around a bottle of fish food on my way to my apt and the neighbors (they were having a complex BBQ) were like, "awww is that one of your two pets? fish?" and I was like... oops. Guess I', about to have three pets then hahahahahaha (I have a cat and gonna get a dog soon and apparently I'm only allowed two pets). I really wanted to get smart with them and be like, "Sorry, I have 4 fish... I broke the rules"

I'm never going to name anything officially cause I think that helps you stay detached in case something dies but I do have some nicknames (or I guess slang) for certain things.

Feather Duster: simply called "duster" but that's a Always Sunny reference hahaha
Clowns: My male and female clowns, I'm not really sure that can be considered a name though :)
Bangaii Cardinal: My mom calls it "The shark"

Sexy Shrimp: "Sexies"
Pom Pom crabs: "Poms" or (the female) "The Prego Pom" since it's always carrying eggs.
Electric Blue Hermit: Quite possibly my favorite tank inhabitant since he makes me angry so much but is generally amusing, my " Big Blue"

And I think that's about it.

My wife names everything.

3 Green Chromis: eeny, meeny and miny..no Mo (RIP)
Peppermint (shrimp) Patty, along with Matty and Hatty
Nassy snails are the 7 dwarfs: sneezy, sleepy, dopey, doc, happy, bashful and grumpy
and so forth...

I showed her a spaghetti worm and she said "Oh! thats Luigi!"

We NEVER name our fish. There's an old aquarist's adage that warns against naming anything one wants to keep alive and well. Way back when, the kids named a couple of our fish, and I gave in and started using the names too. Sure enuff, those fish died, while the nameless specimens went right on living.
