Hi I have just set up my first nanoreef and I am looking for some recommendations on what type of coral I can keep.. here is my specs 10 gallon tank, 20 lbs live rock, 20 lbs live sand, skimmer, I figure I have about 7 gallons of water and with the light system I am using it will provide around 4 watts per gallon. no fish just coral and macroalgae...

Nano's can be very challenging and fun. I've seem some really nice 10 gallon reef tanks, and have experimented with one myself.
What do you have for circulation?
What type of lighting?
You might want to start off with some small mushrooms and see how they do. Many times your LFS will have some small frags or single corals that can be bought pretty cheap. I'd go with lower light and low current corals in a 10 gallon tank.
Best of luck !

Thanks for the info, right now I have two 13 watt pc's retrofitted into a standard 10 gal hood, one acintic(bad spelling) and one standard daylight. I have a rio 50? for circ.. sound good to you?

Trey ,
I have a 10 gallon tank that sounds very
similar to yours. However I custom built a
Lighting Hood out of Oak. Installed 2 15w
Daylight Power compact lamps and a 15 watt
coral life actinic. Also I installed a small
computer fan for ventillation and a thermal cutout for obvious saftey reasons.I do not use a skimmer but I do make weekly water changes. 2 gallons a week.I have been keeping
Button polyps and Starburst polyps along with the usual clean up crew, and a small Pincusion Urchin for about a year now.

sounds like a nice tank too.. how long did you guys wait from initial set-up to the time you put in your first corals? I just set mine up this past weekend so I'm thinking about a months wait before I buy my first. I think I will try some genera of mushroom. should I place these near the sand or closer to my lights??

I waited about 2 months I guess before adding any corals.
Try moving them around in different locations in the tank, and leave them in a place for a few days. You'll know when they are happy.
Your lighting and powerhead sounds good too.
Good luck Trey ;)

I waited about 1 month before I bought a small rock with about 30 buttons on it.
By the way these are not true corals.then about two months later I bought my Starburst all the while trying to play chemist to keep my calcium levels up and my coralline growth increasing.Water changes are the ticket man!
just top off daily with a light kalk solution
use a little Pro Buffer and watch it grow.Make sure your water temps match when making changes.
