i got a 4inch Naso tang about a week ago, and was considering getting a yellow tang to keep him company, but i've heard they can get nasty and was wondering should i just substiute the yellow tang for a dwarf angel or maybe a powder blue tang? what do u guys think? i have a 125g by the way

Put some kind of trigger in there with him.
i've been into aggressive fish for years
and now im leaning towards more docile and peaceful fish. i love triggers but about a month ago i got a Niger trigger that just wouln't stop chasing my GS maroon clown who later got too stressed and died..so now im trying to stear clear of the aggressive fish...though i know every fish has different personalites and i could get a mean percula..lol..."Maybe" i would consider a blue throat or something, but as ive read before they may be less aggressive compared to other "triggers", but that doesn't necessarily translated to a less aggressive fish in general

Your right, every fish is different.Tangs aren't exactly peaceful fish either though.Thats where i thought you were going with your question, because you assumed any new addition may get bullied abit by your naso, which is going to get huge...lol..I had a chocolate tang who would beat the crap out of my humu, then i traded him(tang) in for a koran,so far they are one happy family.Till the day the clown trigg snaps like everyone keeps telling me he's going to do.

I have not seen tang police yet, so I will deputize myself. If you are looking for a friend for your Naso, try a 220 gl tank. I am sure they will be great friends. Nasos are so huge, great, beatiful fish, lots of personality but they get big, and I mean big, and fast. In addition they are bulky. I had one, in a 125, and after awhile, he was covered in stress spots, had to give him away for next to nothing.

I think a 125 would do for awhile.A 220 is only 6 inches wider right? So your not gaining any length.Plus if your tang got covered in "stress spots"(i assume ich),then that was your fault, not the tank size.A fish will not get ich if its not present. No amount of stress will make ich magically appear.I do agree with you, that they get big fast, but i've never seen one bigger than about 12-13 inches in an aquarium.I also think that if he does not overstock, maybe 2-3 more decent sized fish,he'll be fine.

Naso tangs have a "spotted" coloration that appears when they are stressed, that I believe ajroc was referring to not Ich.

About a Naso in a 125gal, I had mine in a 125gal for 2 years. She grew from 3.5" to just under 5". At the end I could tell however she needed a larger home. She started the infamous tang too small of home "Pacing the Glass" move. She can't wait for 240gal to finish.
About the original question, Naso tankmates, I know you said you had triggers before, but my Naso and my Lei trigger are best buds. I think if you could try a Xanthichthys genus trigger, BlueJaw, Sargassum, they would be a great tankmate to swim with the Naso, in more of a calm leisurely-paced swim that is typical of most Naso
tangs. And they are not aggressive at all like other triggers.

Didn't your parents teach you about assumptions? I meant stress spots, round spots of discoloration on the body. However, I do appreciate your ICH 101. Also, you are forgetting that tangs are very active fish. They do alot of swimming. With the rock work, that tang is down to about, at best 50 gallons of water to swim in.

both of these can get nastier than a yellow tang IMO. Naso tang is one of the most compatible fish you'll find, you can put pretty much anything appropriately sized with it. there big enough to be left alone and cool tempered enough to not trouble other tank mates. it should be significantly bigger than other tangs and more aggressive fish added.

I am man enough to admit my mistake.I never owned a naso, but i still believe a 125 will house one for awhile. That is JMO.Aquascaping can be done in a way to provide them with just as much swimmimg room as that of a 6 inch wider 220.
