I purchased a Naso tang about four or five days ago, i have yet to see him eat. I feed all my fish dried seaweed and also throw some spectrum pellets. all my other fish eat with no problem. I heard someone say that some Naso tangs starve themselves and eventually die, is this true? i do see him picking at rocks, im assuming he is eating algea. is that enough for him. any info would be appreciated.
thanks

Mine took a few days to start eating the algae sheets, but i soaked some flakes in some garlic and he ate it right up.

bull1055, I wish there were more long term success stories on naso tangs cuz they are my favorite. Survival is even lower if their under 3 or 4 inches long when you get them. Most fish outlets will label them as easy to keep as other tangs and its so untrue. Their real weird at times about taking food like other tangs as well. Try rubberbanding some broccoli to your glass cleaner and sink it two thirds the way down your glass. Some things just dont do well in captivity, and naso tangs are one of them. The last one I had was in a 150 gal reef, and with a little work we had him eating real well. He was fat and happy, then one day he went behind the reef and wouldnt come out, and ofcourse died a couple of days later. For know reason in perfect water.

I have a naso about 5 inches and have had him now for about 4 months...doing great. It did take about a week to really see eating. Mine did not and still does not like anything in garlic, go figure. I started first doing the sheets in the magnet holder and to this day still the favorite. Took my little one about a 3 weeks before he would try new things and now will eat anything with a fight the second we put it in. We currently have a 90 gallon but will be upgrading to a 180 or 240 in the next month or so. So far so good and very happy fish so far.
