Naso Tang

l have a 75 gal tank that is about 3 years old. It is doing fantasticly well and l am very happy with it. l have 2 tomato clowns, a Raccoon face angel, a flame angel, a coral beauty and 2 blue damsels. Every body gets along so fine it is amazing. I have a good amount of live rock and pretty coral (not live coral). I have a Fluval 400 filtration system and a Protein Skimmer. I want to know if it would be ok to add a Naso Tang to my tank. l just love this fish and would be great to add one to my tank. Please, l need some advise. The people at the Pet shop are no help. they just sell the fish. I am thinking to better get my fish from Saltwaterfish.com instead.
Thanks for any information on this subject.

I would highly recomend that you not put a Naso into a 75. Not that a Naso would cause trouble with your tanks current inhabitants, but just for the amount of space this species need. Naso Tangs get HUGE and are open water swimmers in the wild. They have stiff bodies and need space to swim and turn around. I had a 3" Naso in my 150 for about a month until I determined that the environment wasn't suitable for one and traded it in. There are other tangs that would be suitable for a 75. Have you considered a Kole Tang or a Chevron Tang?

Hello and thank you for your reply. l will give this a serious thought because l really like the Damsels. They are the kind with a bright yellow tail and look great. They really dont bother the other fish in the tank but one of them is very defensive of his home, wich is a purple tube coral. He loves this and it is small enough so only he fits in it. l have lots of live rock and l have made little caves and tunnels for the other fish to sleep and hide. Thanks again for your input.
Maria.

You said in the original post that that everyone gets along, so why anyone would say get rid of them is odd. NO WAIT, its not odd. Its normal on this board.
Keep the damsels BECAUSE THEY AREN'T CAUSING ANY PROBLEMS. This board is really getting ridiculous.

well i dont know if im sure about what the previous post was trying to say, but in addition to the fact that the naso tangs need more swimming room, they eat alot and therefore poop alot. this could cause you to have a serious nitrate problem on your hands considering the bio-load you already have. IMO stay away from the naso until you have a much bigger tank. HTH!! :)

You guys are ridiculous, really. Have a great life. This "your tank isn't big enough" is completely out of control. In a year this board will be saying you need a 75 gallon tank minimum for one blue damsel. There is so much "opinion" that is being posted here as "fact", and its WRONG, by the way, that many who are new to this hobby are going to sour on it quick. A person posts that DAMSELS AREN'T CAUSING PROBLEMS, and someone suggests taking them out anyway. I'll stick to the "other" site that posts opinions as opinions, and the opinions posted are from people that actually KNOW what they are talking about. This site is populated by many "I know eveyrthing about saltwater fish" who are equilivent to mall security guards. Next thing you know it'll be stated from these "experts" that you need the ocean for a turbo snail. What a joke.
