nay info on zebra moray eels

hi everyone i have been doing this for a little under a year now, so im still new to the hobby.
without getting boring on you all il keep this short. im upgrading to a larger tank. currentlly i have a peaceful community fish tank. my fish include...
1 cardinal
3 emerald crabs
1 pink/blue goby
1 tiger pistol shrimp
1 blackcal basslet
1 hippo tang
2 clowns
they are all in my 30 gallon tank now, but here is the thing i would love a zebra moray and i have read they are very docile eels. do any of you have one of these beutiful eels and could share any info about them. and if it would be ok to add my fish from my 30g into this larger tank with the zebra moray ( oh yea forgot to mention i am upgrading right now to a larger tank an 80gallon).
i do understand that the goby, pistol shrimp, and the emerald crabs cant be in the tank because this eel mostlly in the wild eats snails, crabs, shrip and so forth.

IMO and I'm not an expert. I think the Eel would make a very expensive meal out of you shrimp and gobies.
But again this is just from my experience with a Snowflake Eel.

he wont touch fish. mine gets beat in the head by a damsel. just sits there like it feels good. as for shrimp and crabs

my zebra and snowflake leave a silver dollar size holloween hermit alone but they love there cocktail shrimp and crawfish.

thank yoall for your commentss... i think once i get this new tank totally set up im going with the zebra and we will see how it goes, but i rather enjoy watching the goby and pistol shrips relationship. so looks like il have to set up and running tanks now

Zebras are the best eel for a community tank, see how it goes with the pistol shrimp, if you feed it well enough it may leave it alone, being that it is a pistol shrimp that can fight back a little, I have three cleaners shrimp with mine, though very different, he does not touch them, they can get very large, my friend also has one, he is about 4ft and about 3"-4" thick, he is a big guy, good luck

I feed my eel a couple of times a week and he loves his fresh raw clams!! I have a cleaner shrimp who actually goes into my eels mouth like a tooth brush and cleans his mouth. No issues at all, but again i make sure my eel is well feed.
i dont know if this will answer your question or not but my zebra eel stays in his rock most of the time, but when he's hungry he really swims all over my tank. My zebra eel is apprx 28" long and I have a 300 gallon tank. Honestly, for the long haul imo he would be happier in a bigger tank. Heres a pic of mine.

Eels... ALL of them will eat whatever they can find if they are hungry. when they get large, they eat a lot. If you can keep it well fed it might be OK, and by well fed, I mean feed it until IT STOPS eating. otherwise, you will be missing, fish and shrimp and crabs and whatever else it can find.

Not totally true, over the years ive had a few zebra eels and never have had a problem with them going after fish. Yes, if you dont feed them on a regular basis they can be more agressive but you cant just make a generalization like that about zebras. How many and how long have you taken care of a zebra? my guess is probably never. My eel is Large and still docile.

Well I am happy you have an eel that is docile and wont eat other fish even if you starve him. I will ask mine how they feel about other fish when their tummies are rumbling.
I am going to guess that at that point the other fish look like food. But maybe that is just a generalization kind of like your assumption that I have never had an eel.
and why don't you tell this guy that his eel probably wont eat other fish.

I have a 24" Zebra Eel and he is very docile, doesn't touch any snails or hermit crabs and there's even some peppermint shrimp in the tank. Of course, I keep him well fed. Also, these type of eels don't eat fish in the wild, they eat mostly crustaceans so I think your fish, even small ones will be fine.

windlasher we are reffering to zebra morays not every moray out there and yes the snowflake has been known to eat fish. I also own a zebra which is around 2.5ft long and have never seen him move to eat a fish. he is very docile. and yes sometimes I only feed him once a week and still no problems.

My Zebra is almost 3 to 3.5 feet long in my 55g. I have read that a 50g is the min as they dont swim around and in my case it is very true. They stay in one spot and dont move till you feed them. Very fish friendly and also with my shrimp. Im setting up a 125g now with underground 3" pvc piping so he can go in. He loved raw clams and I feed him about 6 or 7 of them twice a week. Also scallops but he likes more the clams. He doesnt mess with my hermits or snails so I got lucky there too. Beautiful creatures. Worth it IMO

OK. that's cool but still going to go with if he gets hungry enough he MIGHT. which i believe was the OPs question. Anything in this hobby is possible. Mine is in a tank with blue damsels. If he eats them... Oh well, but since he is well fed he hasn't. Eels tend to get moody and not eat for long periods of time anyway, but that doesn't mean they wont.
