Any thoughts on this subject?
For those who are unaware an NBA referee is being investigated for his gambling ties to the mob and if he fixed games as a result of his gambling debts.

I hope that he is the only one involved and it's a terrible situation (this guy ref'd playoff games). It's a good example of what can happen when you owe a lot of $$ to shady people and the things they have you do to repay your debt...he may have been better off letting them take a couple of fingers instead.

i hope this guy goes down in flames!!! i cant believe that its been going on for so long undetected... the NBA needs to go to a similar system that the NFL uses for their refs...

what do they do to the refs in the NFL?
every monday and tuesday plays are reviewed by a panel... anything that could be a controversial call is discussed... then the head of officiating offers a statement wether or not the refs made the right call...

if you watch the NFL Network on mondays Rich Eisen has a segment where he asks the head of officiting to explain controversial calls... this is after the plays have been reviewed... and sometimes the NFL has to give teams an apology...

The NBA is different from the NFL because Ref's have so much more control of the outcome of the game. I also hope he's the only one involved. They say that from 2003-2005 his games were legit, than I guess in 2005 is when he got deep in debt from gambling. They are saying that in those years 2003-2005 his games resulted in 44% covering the spread which is normal based on averages of other refs, then suddenly it jumped to 57% in 2005-2007. The reports are saying that he's taking some people down with him... could be other refs...players...or mobsters?

come on people, I would not be suprised tomorrow, if someone came out with proof, that basketball is totally rigged. There is no way that "professionals" that are the best couple hundred officials in the world can be so over the map and riddled with inconsistancy than nba officials are. It can't be that hard. I did enjoy watching stern (david) on espn during the press conference they were drilling him.

They do get reviewed. Some say Stern has had a PI on this guy for a year. I've also heard the opnion that the NBA's knowlegde of this was held until after the playoffs to avoid any potential interuptions during the season or draft.
I also doubt very seriously that players are invloved because they make soooo much dough. So refs would be a more likely candidate to be approached by a bookie or mobster.

NBA officials dont get reviewed on a game by game basis... yes the FBI has been watching this guy for a year or so, but David Stern said he didnt find out about the investigation until June 20th... 2 weeks later the ref put in his resignation...
