Need advice on sump versus cannister

I am cycling my tank (3rd week) I already had a sump fo my 90g. My lfs guy convinced me to buy an EHEIM professional II, and use it instead of the sump mainly because of convinience, noise, etc... After a day or two I found this forum.... I had the tank set up and running for a few years ni the States before I dismantelled it when I moved to Greece. Although I had problems in the original set up I know that it was my fault, not the system's (overstocking, overfeeding).
Most of you use sumps if I understand correct, and I was wandering, should I switch to the sump while still in the cycle, should I stick with the cannister, should I use both?
Need some answers here.....

I would use the sump on the 90G, as you can add and remove components very easily, hook up a refuge, add a chiller, or a Kalk doser to the tank via the sump, but not as easily, or maybe not at all, with the canister. However, I would still use the canister, but on a 20G QT/Hospital tank. GL

I owuld definately use a sump otherwise you have to leave your heaters in the tank, a hang on the back skimmer, and more hoses and siphons in the tank as opposed to a single overflow and return line. Just provides a useful way to hide all the equipment, also makes it easy to add additional equipment and an area to dose so you don't risk shocking your fish when you put additives in.

I would use the sump instead of the canister but you could always use the canister on the sump if you wanted to have it for running carbon or water polishing etc. As stated, a sump gives you a good place to put ugly stuff like heaters rather than in the display as well as a safer place for dosing etc. HTH
