Need Advice

I am having a problem with keeping my tank temperature regulated. It has been fluctuating from about 74 to 79 degrees, depending on how cold/warm it is in my room. Are there any tricks or equipment I need to buy to keep the temp. at a steady degree??? I have heard of chiller set up but know nothing about them nor do I know if they are even used for this problem. All advice is greatly appreciated.

A heater or combo of heaters keep the temp from falling below a set degree and the chiller will keep it from rising above a set degree, the heater is a must and i assume you have one. A chiller is bucks but needed in some places. If you can keep your room more stable it would be better if its only topping at 79 degrees thats not too high you can add a heater to bring the low end up to say 77 and the change aint that big of a problem. During the summer I dont know how hot it gets in NY but here in CA it hit 107 and will be there for days so if the climate control in your house doesnt work good a chiller can be a needed item. If thats not the case add another heater to make up for the drop in temp. Just my .02 but think about your climate and it will decide pretty much for you. Bill

Hey thewolfman777,
I've found that occassionally a heater will have a wide deadband ( temperature differential being the number of degrees that the tank water must drop before the heater switches back on )and there's not much you can do about that.
Think of deadband as difference between the low temperature the heater turns on at, and the higher temperature the heater turns off at. Other heaters have smaller deadbands, and seem to maintain better overall steady temperatures.
Just an idea ;)
What size tank?
What brand and wattage of heater?
Where is the heater located in relation to water circulation?
In tank or in sump?

wolfman,
go to WalMart and replace your heater with a 350W unitl ($30). Take a 5 gal bucket full of water and get set the right level in the bucket for about four days.
Add it to your tank and you should be fine with two.
