just bought a 3 and half gallon tank and trying saltwater. i know its small but i know it can be done. i want to get this one up and going so when i upgrade i can transfer everything. need suggestions and help, thanks

wish you the best of luck, all i can say is it will be a difficult task maintaining as smaller the tank the more work it requires.
kudos on going saltwater though, i started with a 10 gal and have worked my way up to a 90 gal bowfront.

Hi,
Welcome to the site. When it comes to saltwater the smaller the tank the more difficult. Trying saltwater for the first time, try 30g or larger.
That being said...at the top of the New hobbyist section at the top.... are 101 tips for getting started, read thru that and come back and ask questions...we are right here to help.

3.5 gallons is tiny to start with.
You might want to try just with one small fish - like a neon goby and don't feed much
Plan on 1g water changes a week.
Take it really slow.
Look into PAR38 bulbs for lighting a reef tank.
AND ... read all of the articles here:

Hey Snake...we should get those Snake method threads stickied at the top of the New Hobbyist section so we can direct folks to them. I don't know who to contact for that...Meowzer maybe????

I remember a time when you didn't want me to write them. Lol. Now you want them stickied. Lol. It would be nice.

Well your how to threads are really helpful, even to me, and I'm no beginner. I didn't know that my carbon block was only good for 3 months on my RO unit, and it's nice to just direct someone to a thread so they can read up and then come back with questions. With a jump off point, it helps so folks know what to ask. If I said I didn't want you to write them down...I apologize, and eat my words.
