Most of my fish are huddled in the corner of the tank is there a reason for this?

Hi,

Sounds to me like you have a bully... what fish are not huddled in the corner? Those swimming around can fend off the bully, so are not intimidated, if you have them, the bullies are often the damsels. They get really mean as they mature.

The funny thing is he is the bully...it's a koran angelfish and I just got over ick I had 4 fish survive but I'm thinking it is my nitrates they are very high I've been doing water changes but it hasn't helped

Yea I treated it with kick ich and I also used rally. I had to shut down my skimmer and take out my carbon for a about 13 days but all the fish seem to be fine now but the koran he's been acting strange

Was thinking about doing a 40% water change to get my nitrates down any suggestions?

Hi,

Kick ick doesn't work.... fish really don't care about nitrates which has nothing to do with ich. If you are using API test kits...they read 4Xs higher then it really is.

Though you are not alone with this opinion, I personally disagree. Some fish diseases, such as lymphocystis and HLLE, directly correlate to the presence of nitrates. Nitrates is a indicator that your system is not balanced sufficiently enough to remove wastes.

Segas, ich will very likely return within the next couple of weeks. Kick ich does not work. I'm assuming you don't have a quarantine tank?

I 100% agree about the nitrates causing OTHER problems, and the system is not balanced, but the huddled in the corner has nothing to do with that, and was my only reason for wording things like I did.

Not big enough for all the fish in my tank they all seem fine except that Koran angelfish who is weird anyway I recently add 2 fire gobys and they are doing great. The reason for the problem was I had to shut down my skimmer and take out the carbon filter for 13 days so the tank got nasty quick
I have a sailfin tang
Koran angelfish
Clown fish
Scooter blenny
Tomato clown
2 fire gobys
Flame scallop
Many corals
Lots of snails and hermit crabs

Tangs do not belong in a 40 gal. tank. More like 125-150 tank. He seems to be your aggressor. I'd catch him and see if you can trade him back to the fish store you got him from for credit or a non-fish item (since you have ich). Also, you have enough fish right now. How long have you had the tang?

I just had the fish given to me they were in a 50 gallon I had a 60 gallon so I just recently transferred them 2 months ago. So I don't know how old he is. So I'm working on buying a new tank so I would say I'm doing them a favor.

See if the fish store is willing to take him then, otherwise he will continue to kill off your other fish. The problem, of course, is that all your fish have ich now.
