Ok....I have this red algae (??) appearing in my 225G....My son and I have been trying to figure it out (LOL) but can not. I do not believe it is cyano because it is different....HOW...well cyano is light and fluffy and is easily blown off and removed.....this stuff is darker, more dense, and very difficult to blow off...BUT with enough pressure it will
here are a couple of pics.....I'mat a loss....but still DO NOT think it is cyano

You say it's hard? Not as hard as coraline but not as soft as cyano? Do you have rock from the Caribbean? How long has it been spreading (out of curiosity)

maybe 2 weeks....it isn't spreading really fast.....I wouldn't call it hard....BUT it is not as "light" as cyano...SORRY I am not great at descriptions....
I think my rock is mostly figi....And come to think of it I never had anything like this before I got my new rock last month....and it is supposed to be figi

Never heard of figi but I'm sure it's close to fiji :)
I was thinking that maybe it's a sponge... or someone was murdered on your rock =c)
A lot of caribbean rock have sponge similar to this, and many other colors that grow all over the rocks.

:( I have no clue.....I am missing 2 lyretails, but I don't think they would "bleed" that much LOL
this is very frustrating cause IDK what (if anything) I should do......I hate to leave it in case it is bad....and I hate to stress over it in case it's not

I know what you mean. Are those the fish that you just purchased? That's sad.

YES
...I was hoping they were hiding, but it's been 2 days now and I am only finding 3.....I have a great CUC, so I am not worried about the remains, just sad that they are gone sighhhhhhh (escpecially since they are $30 each)

I'm really sorry to hear that :( I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a flash light to make sure my fish were still alive... This is why I stick to coral and shy away from fish. Good luck. Hopefully they're just being shy.

Crutose coralline algae or perhaps a form of Mesophyllum sp. another coralline. Leave it be.

WOW....It will do that? And to think if I could have reached it I'd have been scrubbing it off

Carlos told me to pm you.....lol...but I was so sure it was gonna be something bad...and I didn't want you to see my 225G looking bad :(

Meowzer, didn't I tell you that I actually paid for this stuff and not to worry about it? LOL
It actually is really pretty when it starts to plate. My blenny destroyed my patch and now I can't find anyone that has some that will share. Many people this it's cyano and destroy it before it starts to plate and look pretty. I actually had to pay $60 for a 4" branch with this stuff on it. Damn NYers and they're crazy pricing.
